Volkswagen Launches Nivus GTS in Brazil with 1.4 TSI Engine and Sporty Tuning; New Compact SUV Promises Better Performance in Curves, Aggressive Design, and Cutting-Edge Technology to Challenge Rivals from Fiat
Volkswagen officially introduced the Nivus GTS, the new sporty version of the compact SUV in Brazil. The proposal is clear: deliver hatchback performance without sacrificing everyday comfort and practicality. To achieve this, the brand invested in important changes in mechanics, design, and driving experience.
Mechanical Changes and Performance
The Nivus GTS is not just a Nivus with a more aggressive look. Volkswagen replaced the 1.0 TSI engine with the well-known 1.4 TSI delivering 150 hp. The six-speed automatic transmission was recalibrated for quicker shifts. There were also changes to the suspension and stabilizer bar, making them firmer.
According to data released by the brand, the SUV shows an 8% gain in rigidity during corners and a 5% reduction in the roll angle. The model accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 206 km/h. The declared fuel consumption is 11.6 km/l in the city and 14.2 km/l on the highway.

With a twin-cylinder engine of 49.6 hp and a range exceeding 400 km, the new Honda NX500 2027 debuts with a 5” TFT panel, Showa suspension, HSTC torque control, dual-channel ABS, and unlimited mileage warranty.
Design and Equipment of the New Nivus GTS
In terms of design, the Nivus GTS features a piano black finish on the front bumper and a discreet red stripe. The roof, mirrors, and rear spoiler are black. The headlights are full-LED, and the optional 18-inch wheels come fitted with 215/45 Continental tires.
The interior includes bucket seats, a 12-inch digital dashboard with real-time turbo pressure, and engine sound amplified through the speakers. The Sport mode also allows for an extra growl in the cabin, while manual shifts can be made via paddles on the steering wheel or by the gear lever.
Comparison with Rivals from Fiat
The main competitors are the Pulse Abarth, which costs R$ 152,990, and the Fastback Abarth, sold for R$ 171,990. Both offer a 1.3 turbo engine with up to 185 hp, but come with only four airbags and lack features like adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist.
Despite less power, the Nivus GTS promises better efficiency. According to the brand, it can achieve up to 2 km/l more on the highway than the Fastback Abarth. Additionally, it retains six airbags and a maximum rating in the Latin NCAP.
Market and Next Steps for the Nivus GTS
The arrival of the Nivus GTS may shake up the compact SUV segment in Brazil as early as this first semester. Fiat is already considering updates to the Abarth lineup, while Chevrolet is working on launching the Tracker RS for 2026.
The first units of the Nivus GTS will be available for test drives starting in June. Volkswagen is also banking on the good reputation of the 1.4 TSI engine and the model’s lower depreciation compared to rivals to attract buyers mindful of cost-effectiveness and resale value.
