Russian Tech Giant Opens Negotiations and Could Invest Up to R$ 2.3 Billion in the Country. Learn More About the Company!
The global tech market could gain a new protagonist in Brazilian soil! We are talking about Yandex, known as the “Russian Google”, which started talks with Brazilian authorities to discuss strong investments in the country, according to the site Tec Mundo.
According to information from Estadão, representatives of the Russian group met with key government figures, including the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, and the Vice President, Geraldo Alckmin, at the end of February. The speculated figures revolve around R$ 2.3 billion for possible investments, although the company is cautious in officially confirming the amounts.
What Is Yandex?
Founded in 1997 by Arkady Volozh and Ilya Segalovich, Yandex is considered the largest search engine in Russia, offering a wide range of products, such as:
-
Scientists from MIT create an origami-inspired hydrogel panel that captures invisible vapor and produces drinking water even in one of the driest deserts on the planet without battery, without outlet, and without solar energy, using only the temperature difference between day and night.
-
Belgium will sink 23 giant concrete caissons, each weighing 22,000 tons, in the North Sea to build the world’s first artificial energy island 45 km off the coast, forming offshore electrical walls.
-
The Pacific seafloor is breaking apart near Canada, and the silently cracking plate may reveal deep secrets about tsunamis, earthquakes, and methane hidden in the ocean.
-
Oyster cement surprises scientists by sticking even underwater, becoming 10 times more adhesive, and promising a stronger, faster, and less environmentally burdensome concrete.
- Yandex Search (search engine)
- Yandex Maps
- Yandex Mail
- Yandex Music
- Yandex Images
- Virtual Assistant Alice
- Mobility Apps: Yandex.Navi and Yandex.Cab
In Russian-speaking countries, such as Kazakhstan, Belarus, Turkey and Uzbekistan, Yandex dominates the market thanks to its tailored strategy, with algorithms that prioritize localized results adapted to the cultural context.
Global Growth and Presence in Brazil
Yandex has been expanding its ecosystem beyond the United States/Europe axis, where giants like Google and Microsoft reign. In Brazil, since 2024, the company has been operating with its digital advertising division, similar to Google Ads, and adopted the trade name “Yango” here.
Today, Yandex has 100,000 employees and ended 2024 with an impressive revenue of R$ 72 billion, although still below the numbers of Alphabet (Google).
Why Brazil?
Yandex’s interest in Brazil reflects a growth strategy focused on emerging markets and less directly aligned with Western powers. For the Brazilian government, this movement is an opportunity to diversify technological partnerships and strengthen the local digital ecosystem.
The Russian giant makes it clear:
“We are always open to discussing trends in digital markets and sharing our experience.”
