The construction of the Grand Egyptian Museum began in 2002, when former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak laid the project’s foundation stone. The idea was to create a museum that was as majestic as Egypt’s rich ancient history. The chosen location is just 2 km from the Giza Pyramids complex, offering a spectacular view. The new largest museum in the world has a unique design, inspired by an architecture competition that received thousands of submissions from around the world.

The winning design was created by architects from Ireland, and the construction was partly funded by a $300 million loan from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation, in addition to resources from the Egyptian government and international donations.

The museum features advanced technologies such as virtual reality, and an international communication center for museums to promote direct contact with other institutions.

The museum dedicates around 24,000 square meters to permanent exhibitions, including a Children’s Museum, conference and education centers, and a large conservation center.

Visitors can explore the history of ancient Egypt through interactive and educational exhibits, which include a library on Egyptian civilization, virtual reality rooms, and commercial areas with cafes, restaurants, and even a gym.
