Causing irreparable damage to nature, used lubricating oil is highly toxic and its destination must be a company for new refining.

The disposal of lubricating oil in Brazil and in the world can cause several harms. However, not all cities have a collection point or a final destination for this liquid. Thus, discarding occurs anyway, whether in nature or in rivers, greatly harming the lives of many animals. Therefore, due to its high difficulty in degrading in the environment, it is recommended that, after being used, they are returned to the refineries.

Thinking about these risks to human life, as well as a financial return, Ceará has been proving to be increasingly active, proving to be one of the pioneers and protagonists when it comes to recycling this liquid. Among the nine states that make up the Northeast, Ceará is the one that most treats oil. Thus, the state collects 13% of the lubricant used in the region.

What are the dangers of used lubricating oil?

Because it is a waste composed of petroleum derivatives and other toxic compounds, its disposal in open places is the worst and most common mistake. Because, due to its composition, it becomes highly difficult to be degraded in the discarded place. In some situations, it can take tens of years. When discarded on the ground, the site will lose its fertility, and if there is a harvest nearby, it will be destroyed.

According to Biotech Reciclagem, each liter of used lubricating oil is capable of contaminating around 1 million liters of water. Thus, even though a small amount is discarded, the results from this action could be catastrophic. Therefore, if you do not know whether or not you have this collection point in your city, just go to the gas station or a refinery and let them dispose of it correctly.

In 2020, 115 municipalities participated in a collective collection and together more than 7 million liters of used lubricating oil were collected. After being collected, they were transferred to a new refining, according to the rules of the SIMP (Product Movement Information System), linked to the ANP (National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels).

Ceará will install a Collection Center for used lubricating oil

To further contribute to the population and the environment, the state of Ceará will install the first and only collection center authorized by the ANP. The expectation is that the number of liters will be doubled by the end of the year. the Center will be located in Eusébio, in Fortaleza, the state capital. Since the responsibility for everything to work out is the sole responsibility of LWART.

It is a 100% Brazilian company, but it has a world reference when it comes to new refining. Only in the Northeast region, this is the third point projected by the company, which by expanding to more municipalities, generates jobs for residents of the region. Lubricating oil is used by machines and some industrial equipment, whether in the infrastructure or automotive sector.

Soon after being used, it ends up losing its function due to the decomposition of some compounds that are present in its constitution. Thus, in addition to being no longer useful, its toxicity is now quite high, and can cause severe and irreversible damage. is so dangerous that the law itself prohibits this type of lubricating oil be used again for burning fuel or any other things. The ideal is to take it to a new refining and thus save and preserve life. In 2020, more than 450 million liters of this fuel were collected and taken for further refining.
