If Approved By The FMM, Billion-Dollar Package Promises To Revolutionize Inland Navigation In The North, Focusing On Works In Pará And Investments In Amazonas
A billion-dollar investment package approved by the Merchant Marine Fund (FMM) is expected to transform inland navigation in the Northern region. In May, the FMM council authorized R$ 2 billion for projects in the port and naval sector of the Amazon, with a primary focus on the state of Pará.
Of this total, R$ 1.4 billion will be allocated to Pará’s inland navigation. The construction of 66 container ships, 42 bulk carriers, and 8 push boats is planned.
A floating transshipment system will also be implemented, allowing efficient movement of cargo between ships, barges, and trucks.

The initiative is led by the Ministry of Ports and Airports, which seeks to meet the growing infrastructure needs in the region. Amazonas will also receive R$ 563.9 million, divided among four distinct projects.
The company Cidade Transportes will receive R$ 169.6 million to build 24 solid bulk barges, two tank barges, and one barge with a crane.
On the other hand, EdLopes Transportes Ltda will receive R$ 220.2 million for the construction of 36 barges and three push boats, in addition to generating 787 direct jobs.
Wilson Sons Serviços Marítimos Ltda will have R$ 157 million to manufacture two support vessels for navigation. An additional R$ 16.3 million will be used for the repair of two tugboats.
This regional package is part of a record amount of R$ 22 billion released in a single FMM session. A total of 26 projects in Brazil will benefit, focusing on new constructions, renovations, improvements in dry docks, expansion of shipyards, and port works.
The initiative reinforces the strategic importance of inland navigation for the development of the Amazon and the strengthening of the Brazilian naval industry.
