There Are Chances That the Hyundai Elantra Sedan Will Be Developed in the Brazilian Market. With Space in the Mid-Sized Sedans, Hyundai Can Compete with the Famous Toyota Corolla.
Hyundai announced, at the beginning of the month, the arrival of two new models in the Brazilian automotive market for the second half, the SUV Palisade and the hatch Ioniq 5. However, the South Korean brand has not yet confirmed what the third car will be produced in national territory at the Grupo Caoa factory in Anápolis (GO). The plant located in the interior of Goiás has the capacity to produce 150,000 vehicles per year, however, today it only produces the HR-V and the Tucson. However, there is still quite a bit of space for a new model. A good guess from experts for the brand might be the Hyundai Elantra sedan, which could compete with the Toyota Corolla, which in its new generation has gained a much bolder and sportier appeal.
Currently, the brand produces the HB20 family and the Creta at its factory in Piracicaba (SP), and, with just these, it already manages to reach the maximum capacity of 200,000 vehicles per year.
Regarding imports, the Grupo Caoa operates in Brazil with the new generations of the Kona (electric and hybrid) and the Ioniq (hybrid), in addition to the Tucson produced here. The launch of the Palisade and the Ioniq 5 has also been confirmed, as well as the arrival of the new generation of the Kona or the Santa Fe.

Harley-Davidson created an entry-level motorcycle that seems impossible for those who only know the brand’s big bikes: the X440 uses a 440 cc single-cylinder engine, delivers 27 hp, 38 Nm, a declared fuel consumption of 35 km/l, and showcases a small, rational, and much more accessible Harley in India.

As can be seen, Hyundai is present in the Brazilian automotive market in various segments, such as entry-level hatches and sedans, mid-sized hatchbacks, and SUVs of all categories. However, there is a lack of an option among mid-sized sedans, which could be filled by the Hyundai Elantra sedan, to compete with the famous Toyota Corolla.
Why Could Hyundai Manufacture the Elantra for Brazil?
Choosing the Hyundai Elantra sedan to be produced in the Brazilian market could be a great move for the brand. Since the category change by the Civic, the mid-sized sedan segment is currently dominated by the Toyota Corolla, which sold 42,923 units in 2023.
According to the National Federation of Automotive Vehicle Distribution (Fenabrave), the model accounted for 77.99% of sales in the category. In this scenario, the Hyundai Elantra sedan emerges as an alternative for the brand to capture a share of Toyota Corolla’s market and maybe even steal its leadership.
This last possibility would be quite difficult to realize, however, the model certainly has everything to make the champion at least a little uncomfortable. It is worth noting that, in dimensions, the Hyundai Elantra measures 4.71 m in length, with a wheelbase of 2.72 m. The height is 1.41 m and the width is 1.82 m.
Toyota Corolla Rival Delivers 147 Horsepower
Regarding mechanics, the Hyundai Elantra sedan offers a relatively wide range of options, considering the model sold in the United States. The entry-level option features a 2.0 naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine with just 147 horsepower and 18.2 kgfm of torque.
There is also an option with a 1.6 four-cylinder turbo engine that reaches 201 horsepower and 26.9 kgfm of torque. In some markets, a hybrid option is also available, with a 1.6 naturally aspirated engine and a second electric one that together deliver 139 horsepower.
The N version of the Toyota Corolla rival is equipped with a 2.0 turbo engine producing 280 horsepower and 39.7 kgfm of torque, in addition, of course, to several mechanical and aesthetic changes focused on sportiness. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h happens in just 5.3 seconds.
