The first generation of the Chevrolet Onix marked a great success in the Brazilian market. Launched in 2012 to replace the Corsa, the Onix quickly carved out its space, becoming the best-selling car in the country in 2015, a title it maintained until 2020, when the second generation was already in circulation. Even not leading sales anymore, the Onix solidified its legacy as one of the most popular cars in Brazil. Chevrolet Onix Automatic Delivers 106 HP

As the biggest success of GM in recent years, Chevrolet’s popular car was a reference among compact hatches, gathering qualities such as style, comfort, performance, and above-average content. Particularly starting in 2014, when the Chevrolet Onix Automatic was launched.

The six-speed automatic transmission, the same GF6 from the Cobalt, Spin, and the First Cruze, was always paired with the 1.4 engine delivering 106/98 HP and 13.9/13 kgfm. Not very powerful, but not too weak either, delivering acceptable performance, going from 0 to 100 km/h in about 13 seconds. Thus, the Chevrolet Onix Automatic’s fuel consumption is around 12.9 km/l in urban areas and 15.9 km/l on the highway, always with gasoline.

Highlights of Chevrolet’s Popular Car

With the platform of the Chevrolet Cobalt and good suspension tuning, it raised the level of the category, with the Onix demonstrating agile and safe behavior without compromising comfort. For a car launched over a decade ago, the interior features good quality fabrics and well-fitted plastics.

The good level of equipment comes from the fact that all Chevrolet Onix Automatics come with ABS brakes, height-adjustable steering, a digital dashboard, air conditioning, and 15-inch alloy wheels. The acclaimed MyLink, a central unit with a 7-inch touchscreen, was optional.

The facelift of the Chevrolet Onix Automatic corrected some issues. Inside, the internal door handles moved to the traditional position, retiring the old handle that was excessively low. The MyLink multimedia center replaced the controls below the screen with more visible buttons for volume, tuning, and track selection and now features Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

It may also be interesting to consider Chevrolet’s popular car in the Activ version, an adventurous model that emerged after the facelift. It is identified by the black plastic accessories wrapped around the body and by the longitudinal roof bars.

Problems and Defects Presented in the Chevrolet Onix Automatic

Being robust and reliable, the six-speed automatic transmission may present problems such as delays in engaging gears after selection on the lever, especially reverse. The repair requires specialized labor and rarely costs less than R$ 5,000.

It is also important to watch for abnormal noises when steering the vehicle: the problem is caused by air entering the system, which over time ends up damaging the hydraulic pump. Electric steering was implemented in 2017.

It is worth noting that the 2014 and 2015 models suffered from manufacturing issues in the fuel filter involving units produced between October 2013 and April 2014. The chassis numbers range from EG200546 to FG117462.
