The weekly unemployment claims in the US rose to 235 thousand for the week ending August 9, according to data from the Department of Labor. This number represents an increase of 11 thousand applications compared to the previous period and reinforces signs of pressure on the US labor market.

In total, the beneficiaries of assistance reached 1.972 million, 30 thousand more than the previous week and above the 1.859 million recorded in the same period of 2024. The growth suggests that more workers are facing difficulties in reemployment, even in a heated economic scenario.

The increase was driven by specific states. California (+741 claims), New York (+630), and Rhode Island (+570) led the increase, followed by Michigan (+527) and Maryland (+343).

States with Highest Unemployment Rates Supported by Assistance

The highest unemployment rates with assistance support were observed in New Jersey (2.7%), Puerto Rico (2.6%), and Rhode Island (2.5%). Minnesota (2.2%) and states like California, Massachusetts, Washington, and Washington D.C. (2.1%) also rank among those most dependent on the benefit.

Meanwhile, Oregon and Pennsylvania, at 1.9%, follow closely behind in the ranking. These rates reflect the weight of assistance in balancing family income in different regions of the country.

What Explains the Variation in Claims

Experts point out that factors such as seasonal adjustments, changes in industrial sectors, and economic instability influence the weekly numbers. In the case of California, for example, there are reflections of the slowdown in the technology sector and the weakening of the real estate sector.

In industrial states like Michigan, part of the increase is attributed to the reorganization of factories and supply chains, impacted by trade tariffs and higher production costs.

Outlook for the Labor Market

Despite the increase, analysts emphasize that the US labor market remains relatively stable, with historically low unemployment rates. Weekly monitoring, however, is considered an important gauge for identifying medium-term trends.

If unemployment claims continue to rise, the scenario may reinforce debates about the Federal Reserve’s monetary policies and fiscal adjustments to support the economy.

Acho que nao concordo, moro e trabalho nos USA LEGALMENTE
Parece que e uma postagem copiada da midia de esquerda daqui CNN ou CBS. Acabo de receber proposta de emprego para ganhar mais e obviamente aceitei.
Onde trabalhava estao com dificuldade de contratar, nao aparece ninguem e e para ganhar $30/hr funcao operacional.
E duro dar palpite de longe qdo nao se conhece a realidade e copia de fontes tendenciosas
