Amid Energy Transition, Petrobras States That Offshore Oil And Gas Market Will Lead In The Coming Decades
As a leader in the oil market, Petrobras stated that the offshore oil, oil, and gas market still has much to experience and, regardless of the energy transition, the market will continue to generate jobs and innovations.

“The energy transition is much more about a consciousness about the current model of production, consumption, and recycling of material and energy, and about the influence of this on climate change. We need to reflect on the origin and energy efficiency of the entire value chain of the products and services that each of us, citizens, companies, and institutions consume, including the post-consumption,” states Flávia Teixeira, Manager of Environment, Corporate Social Responsibility and Energy Transition at ENGIE.
For Petrobras, Energy Transition Is On The Radar, But Oil Will Have Space For Decades
Today, gasoline and diesel power about 90% of new cars sold worldwide. And these products are a very important part of the oil companies’ earnings. In the case of Petrobras, for example, 50% of the current production is gasoline and diesel for road transport.

According to some Petrobras managers, current zero-carbon efforts would be nothing more than a trend adopted by most companies.
“It can be observed in every scenario the slowdown of the offshore oil and gas market, and at some point, we may notice a contraction of this market, but I believe that moment is still a long way off. We never work with dates for the boom of the offshore oil and gas market; all we do is adopt a more resilient portfolio,” they explain.
Petrobras Biorefinery 2030 Would Be A Plan For The Decline Of The Offshore Oil And Gas Market
The program foresees projects for the production of a new generation of fuels, more modern and sustainable than the current ones, such as renewable diesel and aviation bio-kerosene (BioQAv).
Renewable diesel is an advanced biofuel, produced from vegetable oils and with the same structure as conventional diesel, capable of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 70% compared to regular diesel and by 15% compared to biodiesel. We have successfully concluded industrial-scale tests and are waiting for authorization from the National Energy Policy Council for the commercialization of renewable diesel in Brazil.
BioQAv will become mandatory in Brazil from 2027, and its hydrogenation process uses the same raw materials needed for the production of renewable diesel. The industrial units that produce BioQAv have renewable diesel as a co-product.
