Petrobras Accelerates the Interconnection of Three Wells to the P-58 Platform in Jubarte, Espírito Santo, Aiming to Increase Oil and Natural Gas Production by Up to 60,000 Barrels per Day, Mobilizing the Capixaba Industry.

A Petrobras has obtained all the necessary licenses in recent days to interconnect three new wells to the P-58 floating production unit, which operates in the Jubarte field, south of the coast of Espírito Santo.

The state-owned company estimates that, together, these wells could add up to 60,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day to local production, a volume that, if confirmed, is expected to significantly increase the Capixaba supply.

The schedule has been accelerated compared to the original plan — which anticipated connection only between 2026 and 2027 — and the internal expectation is to complete the phase in about six months.

Accelerated Interconnection in Jubarte

The decision to expedite the project is part of a strategy to reuse assets and recover mature areas in Jubarte.

With the licenses granted, the company begins preparations for the mooring and testing, a phase that precedes the effective entry of the wells into production.

The priority is to leverage the already installed infrastructure in the field, reducing implementation times and transportation costs.

On the technical plan, connecting to P-58 allows the new production to be distributed through a unit robust enough to absorb the expected increase.

The company, however, maintains that the projected additional volume considers oil and natural gas converted to oil equivalent, a metric used to standardize comparisons between different hydrocarbon streams.

Idle Capacity and the Role of P-58

The P-58 has been in operation since March 2014.

Ranked among the largest platforms in the country, it has a installed capacity of 180,000 barrels of oil per day.

Despite its size, the unit operates at less than half of that ceiling, which has opened up space for a cycle of revitalization of mature fields in the surrounding area.

This operational window, combined with efficiency gains in brownfield projects, supports the company’s choice to accelerate the interconnection of the new wells.

Although the oil company does not detail, for now, how the production curve well by well will unfold, the choice to use the P-58 as a “hub” reinforces the importance of Jubarte in the short-term strategy.

The processing, compression, and reinjection infrastructure onboard favor faster ramp-ups compared to installing new units.

Espírito Santo Production in Perspective

Espírito Santo closed last year with an average production of 154,900 barrels per day, according to the Findes Oil and Gas Industry Yearbook 2025.

In a state where the oil and gas industry accounts for a significant portion of GDP, incremental gains in the tens of thousands of barrels per day are likely to impact revenue and supplier activity.

For methodological caution, the direct comparison should consider that the announced increase is expressed in oil equivalent, while the yearbook statistics present barrels of oil.

The sector’s reading follows the same line.

In previous statements, leaders in the segment highlighted the continued local opportunities.

In the words of a former Petrobras president, “I still see great potential for oil in ES”, reinforcing the perception that optimization and revitalization projects remain central to the state.

Other Fronts: Maria Quitéria Reinforces the Network

In addition to the advancement in Jubarte, the Capixaba production park gained a boost in late 2024, with the start-up of the Maria Quitéria floating production unit, also from Petrobras, in the Jubarte field.

The unit was designed to process up to 100,000 barrels per day, increasing the capacity for oil and gas transportation and treatment in the region.

This addition of infrastructure complements the strategy to enhance the utilization of already installed platforms.

While the P-58 absorbs new wells interconnected to the existing network, the Maria Quitéria paves the way for scaling production without processing bottlenecks, as the development fronts advance.

Wahoo on the Radar: Entry Expected by the Private Sector

Alongside Petrobras’s projects, the oil company Prio plans to put the Wahoo field — located at the southernmost tip of the Capixaba coast — into operation in the coming months.

The announced goal is to add about 40,000 barrels of oil per day, which is expected to diversify the state’s production sources and dilute operational risks by distributing volumes across different assets.

The coexistence of projects from different operators along the Capixaba coast creates an environment of greater industrial density.

This combination tends to benefit supply chains, logistics, and maintenance services, as well as favor the absorption of specialized labor.

What to Expect in the Coming Months

With the licensing completed and the P-58 prepared to receive new volumes, the focus shifts to offshore execution and operational milestones until the effective contribution of the wells.

Petrobras projects to complete the interconnection in six months, a timeframe that includes the completion of lines, integrity testing, and the stabilization of flow to the unit.

Meanwhile, the evolution of the Wahoo project and the maturation of the Maria Quitéria provide a favorable backdrop for the expansion of Capixaba production.

If the deliveries are confirmed as announced, Espírito Santo is expected to solidify, in the short term, an even more relevant position on the Brazilian oil map.

In practice, the ramp-up speed, the performance of the reservoirs, and the availability of floating units will be the vectors to observe.

Finally, the next operational disclosures will indicate the real trajectory of the new volumes and the degree of utilization of the installed platforms.

According to experts, the anticipation of deadlines signals confidence in the engineering and logistics of the project, but confirmation will come with production bulletins and the effective entry of the wells.
