Petrobras Obtained Authorization from MME to Import Natural Gas from Bolivia
The Ministry of Mines and Energy – MME accepted Petrobras’s request for natural gas and approved on Tuesday, January 19, the import of up to 5.08 million m³ per day of Natural Gas from Bolivia, aiming to supply the thermoelectric market.

An earlier authorization from the MME to Petrobras for Bolivian natural gas imports was valid until the end of 2020. The approval allowed purchases of up to 10.08 million cubic meters per day, with the possibility of an additional 1 million cubic meters per day for use in the transportation system.

The new MME permission for natural gas operations also involves the possibility of additional imports of up to 1 million cubic meters per day for use in the transportation system.

When questioned, Petrobras stated in a note to Reuters that the new authorization granted by the Brazilian government “reflected the volume that was being negotiated with YPFB at the time of the request.”
Until the end of 2019, Petrobras and the Bolivian state gas company YPFB had a contract that provided for a minimum purchase by the Brazilian company of 24 million cubic meters per day, with a maximum of 30.08 million.
