According to Petrobras, the alignment of prices to the international market is essential to ensure that the Brazilian market continues to be supplied without any risk of shortages. This same competitive balance is responsible for price reductions when supply increases in the international market, as occurred throughout 2020.
Petrobras informs that the price of gasoline and diesel sold at the pump at the retail station is different from the amount charged at the company's refineries. Until it reaches the consumer, federal and state taxes are added, costs for the acquisition and mandatory blending of biofuels, in addition to the gross margins of distribution companies and fuel retail stations.

Furthermore, it is important to remember, since Brazilian legislation guarantees freedom of prices in the fuel and derivatives market, the change in the final price will depend on transfers made by other members of the fuel chain, that is, the readjustments by the state-owned company may or may not not be reflected in the final consumer price.
The figure below shows the contribution of each portion in the composition of consumer prices in a calculation based on Petrobras' average prices and on the survey of final consumer prices in 13 Brazilian capitals and metropolitan regions published by the ANP for the week of 07/13 to 02/2021 /XNUMX.
