The Company Needs One More Environmental License Required to Proceed with the Leak Simulation at the Mouth of the Amazon. This Is Another Step Taken by Petrobras for Its Possible Oil Exploration Campaign in the Equatorial Margin.
The state-owned oil company Petrobras has its first environmental license required to proceed with the leak simulation in the Mouth of the Amazon Basin region. The installation license was granted by the Government of Pará to the state-owned company, which is now awaiting just the operation license to proceed with the project. The goal of the oil company is to activate its oil exploration campaign in the state, taking advantage of the potential of the Equatorial Margin.
Petrobras Advances in the Oil Exploration Project at the Mouth of the Amazon, in the Equatorial Margin, and Receives the First of Two Environmental Licenses Needed for Leak Simulation
The Government of Pará granted Petrobras its first environmental license of the two needed for the oil company to carry out a leak simulation in the Mouth of the Amazon region.
This step was seen by the oil company as a significant advancement for Ibama to authorize the operation in the region.

Scheduled to take place in the second half of December, Petrobras’ oil leak simulation still has no set date for execution. The state-owned company is still dependent on the Pará licenses for a small hospital for oiled birds in Belém, called the Wildlife Rehabilitation and De-Oiling Center (CRD).
Now, with the granting of the installation license from the State Secretary of Environment and Sustainability (Semas), the company is getting closer to obtaining the operation license.
If this occurs, it will make a significant leap in its project to enable the oil exploration campaign in the Equatorial Margin region.
Petrobras did not respond to the press when asked about the current status of the project. However, sources claim that the company expects to obtain the second necessary license for the oil leak operation at the Mouth of the Amazon within this week.
Thus, it continues to direct its efforts toward ensuring the execution of its future exploration campaign.
The State-Owned Company Has Been Investing Millions Daily to Enable Oil Leak Simulation in the Mouth of the Amazon Region but Awaits a New Environmental License
Petrobras has been incurring a million-dollar daily cost for mobilizing personnel and equipment for the simulation in the Amazon region since last year.
Its main objective is to open a frontier for oil exploration in the Mouth of the Amazon region, near the area where ExxonMobil recently found indications of fuel reserves.
The project was spearheaded by Petrobras after oil companies like BP and TotalEnergies withdrew from expired auction assets in 2013 due to difficulties in obtaining environmental licenses to continue with the venture.
The Mouth of the Amazon is part of the Equatorial Margin region, where the state-owned oil company plans to invest $2.94 billion by 2027. It has established itself as one of the major potential areas for oil exploration growth in Brazil.
Even with changes in internal management after Jean Paul Prates took over the company, the state-owned enterprise will continue to focus its investments in this new potential area.
