Category Faces Impasses With The State-Owned Company And Discusses 48-Hour Strike Focused On Labor Rights, Operational Safety And Valuation In The Oil And Gas Sector

They have already faced cuts, salary freezes, and unilateral changes to remote work.
Now, the oil workers of Northern Fluminense are organizing a new mobilization, this time broader and coordinated nationally.
Since May 17, 2025, assemblies have been held focusing on two central points: the approval of a 48-hour strike and the election of delegates for the Regional Congress of the category.

It seems that the patience of the base has reached its limits.

Lack Of Dialogue With Petrobras Intensifies The Category’s Spirits

The assemblies were called after frustrating meetings with Petrobras on May 6 and 13, in Brasília.
Despite attempts at dialogue, no concrete proposal was presented by the company, according to the Unified Federation of Oil Workers (FUP).
As a result, on May 14, the entity’s Council approved the strike indication, which is now being validated in each base.

The National Federation of Oil Workers (FNP) also joined the movement and advocated that the stoppage be built in a unified manner throughout the country.

The Workers’ Agenda Is Extensive — And Old

Among the main points voted on in the assemblies are themes that, in addition, remain recurring in negotiations.
However, for the workers, there has never been effective progress. Here are the main items:

  • Guarantee of collectively negotiated telework, with clear rules;
  • Against the reduction of variable compensation, even after the company made R$ 23.4 billion in profit in the first quarter;
  • For the replacement of operational staff, reduced since 2021;
  • Demand for enhanced safety on platforms and outsourced services, especially at FAFEN PR;
  • End of the equation of Petros, which penalizes retirees and pensioners;
  • Creation of a fair and transparent salary and position plan;
  • Compliance with the RSR Action, which deals with Paid Weekly Rest;
  • Unification of decisions between FUP and FNP, to ensure cohesion in the national movement;

Assembly Takes Place In Two Moments And Runs Until May 29

Therefore, the organizers divided the format of the assemblies into two distinct votes: one will decide on the strike and the other, in addition, will choose the representatives who will participate in the Congrenf, which will take place in July.

The guidance is clear: different attendance lists, independent voting, and transparency at every step.

The mobilization occurs not only on platforms but also at refineries and administrative units, whenever union representatives are present.

Union Calls For Total Participation From The Base In The Vote

In a bulletin published on May 18, the Sindipetro-NF emphasized that “the strike will only be strong if built by everyone”.
Therefore, the entity highlights the importance of everyone participating massively, as this is the only way workers can show Petrobras their widespread dissatisfaction.

Even with different shifts and schedules, the union confirms that all groups are being heard.

Strike Could Occur On May 29 And 30

If the majority approves the stoppage, then the strike will be officially communicated to the company, as required by legal notice.
Therefore, the chosen days for the action are May 29 and 30, and furthermore, the guidance is that all units participate.

The measure will be legal, coordinated, and nationally articulated, as required by current legislation.

Much More Than A Stoppage: It’s About Dignity And Respect

The strike, according to the oil workers, is not the end — but the beginning of an organized response from the category.
Workers are fighting not only for salaries and benefits but also for respect, stability, and safety in the oil and gas sector.

Even with advances, companies still frequently cut and make unilateral decisions, which, as a result, weakens labor relations.

Be it with a strike or not, workers have made it clear:
workers also want to be heard by those who power Brazil’s energy.
