Known for Its Robustness and the Famous Commercial of the “Damned Ponies”, the Top-of-the-Line Version of the Frontier Stands Out in the Used Market as an Intelligent Buy and of Excellent Cost-Benefit.
For those looking for a brave, durable mid-size pickup at a fair price in the used market, the 2015 Nissan Frontier SL Diesel emerges as one of the most interesting options. Famous for the marketing campaign that positioned it as a “brutal” pickup among the “damned ponies”, this generation of the Frontier delivers in practice the strength that the advertisement promised, combined with a good equipment package in its top-of-the-line version.
While some competitors from the same period may have inflated prices, the Frontier offers a reliable mechanical set and a maintenance cost considered reasonable for the category. It is the ideal choice for those who need a vehicle for heavy work or leisure, without giving up a good level of comfort and technology for the year.
Engine and Performance: The Strength of the “Damned Ponies”

The heart of the 2015 Nissan Frontier SL Diesel is its 2.5 turbo diesel engine with 16 valves, generating a powerful 190 horsepower and 45.8 kgfm of torque. This engine, known for its robustness, works in conjunction with a 5-speed automatic transmission and an efficient 4×4 traction system with electronic engagement and low-range option.

The SL version was the most complete in the lineup and stood out for its appearance. Details such as chrome mirrors, side steps, and the roof rack complete the imposing look.
Inside, the finish uses hard plastic, as is common in the category, but the assembly is well-made. The SL version is distinguished by offering:
- Leather upholstered seats
- Dual-zone automatic digital air conditioning
- Keyless entry with a start that simulates a conventional key
- Multifunction steering wheel with cruise control
- Multimedia center with color display and rearview camera
Reliability and Cost-Benefit in the Used Market
The 2015 Nissan Frontier SL Diesel is recognized for its durability and for not having serious chronic problems. The maintenance is considered more affordable than some of its direct rivals, and the parts are relatively easy to find.
In the used market, it represents an excellent deal. While the FIPE table is around R$ 100,000, it is possible to find well-preserved units with reasonable mileage in a price range from R$ 95,000 to R$ 110,000. It is undoubtedly one of the mid-size pickups with the best cost-benefit for those looking for a complete and reliable 4×4 diesel model.
