Petrobras Informed That the Platform Reached, on July 12th, Its Project Capacity of 150 Thousand BPD, in the Pre-Salt of the Santos Basin
This morning (July 23rd), Petrobras published a note to the market informing that the P-70 platform, located in the Atapu field, in the eastern portion of the pre-salt of the Santos Basin, reached its project capacity of 150 thousand barrels per day on July 12th, with the contribution of only four producing wells, just over a year after starting production. Positive Results with the Platform Production
Petrobras says that this result confirms the excellent productivity of the reservoirs in the field and reflects the efficient and competitive performance of the company to maximize the potential of its assets, generating more returns for the company and society through job creation and tax payments.
The P-70, a proprietary platform, is the fifth FPSO (floating production, storage, and offloading unit) in the series of replicants and has the capacity to process up to 6 million m³ of natural gas. The unit operates about 200 km off the coast of the state of Rio de Janeiro, in water depths of 2,300 m. With high operational performance, this unit installed in the Atapu field, in the pre-salt of the Santos Basin, continues to contribute to the growth of production in the pre-salt, which is increasingly relevant for Petrobras.

The Sépia field, an area of the onerous assignment of the pre-salt of the Santos Basin, will begin production in August by Petrobras. The FPSO Carioca, which will be responsible for production, has left the Brasfels Shipyard in Angra dos Reis heading to the Santos Basin (the platform will be Petrobras’ largest, both in terms of production volume and complexity).
Sépia is one of the areas of the onerous assignment of the pre-salt of the Santos Basin. On December 17th, the government will auction – for the second time – the excess volume of oil for the project, along with the Atapu field. Petrobras has already expressed its right of preference and will operate the area with at least 30% participation.
The Minister of Mines and Energy, Bento Albuquerque, has already indicated that the government’s expectation is that competition from other companies in the auction will be to work together with Petrobras. In an interview with CNN, Bento says, “No company will enter this auction without participation from Petrobras because Petrobras is already producing in these fields. And it is considered the most qualified oil company to produce in deep waters.”
