BYD, Ford’s new rival, actually launched an electric car considered a clone of a Ford popular car, specifically in China. It is the compact electric SUV BYD Yuan Pro similar to the Ecosport. The American brand’s model was discontinued in the Brazilian automotive market in 2021.
According to reports, the model in question has actually been sold by the brand since 2016. However, the design that closely resembles the Ecosport came after its second facelift.
With a more sporty and off-road identity, the BYD Yuan Pro similar to the Ecosport features LED headlights similar to those of the Ford popular car, but with a simpler grille and different bumper trim. As it is a more affordable model, it does not include fog lights.
Ford Has Not Taken Any Legal Action Against BYD
The model that will be effectively sold in the national market has a different appearance from the first version and uses the Dolphin platform. Returning to the BYD Yuan Pro similar to the Ecosport, as mentioned earlier, its front has a different look that we are already accustomed to with BYD.

At the rear, the similarities are so evident that, at first glance, the old BYD appears to be the very EcoSport. When encountering one in person, it is difficult to tell at first glance whether we are looking at a BYD or the Ford popular car. Tail lights, C-columns, rear windows, wheels, and even the spare tire mounted on the trunk lid. Everything was clearly inspired by the Ford SUV.

The body shape, higher at the rear, also makes the former BYD Yuan Pro similar to the Ecosport sold in Brazil until 2021. Ironically, the Ford SUV was produced in Camaçari (BA), at the factory now owned by BYD. Despite the evident resemblance, Ford has not taken any legal action against the Chinese company.
Meet the New Yuan Pro That Will Arrive in the Brazilian Automotive Market
Currently, the new BYD Yuan Pro has a design that does not resemble the Ford popular car. Its appearance follows BYD’s design language, with interconnected rear lights and no spare tire hanging on the trunk lid.
The compact SUV is 4.30 m long, 1.83 m wide, 1.67 m high and has a 2.62 m wheelbase. Therefore, the model is slightly larger than a Volkswagen T-Cross, but much smaller than the Yuan Plus.
The BYD compact SUV is equipped with an electric motor that delivers 177 hp. With this motorization, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds. The battery is 45 kWh and ensures a range of 401 km by the generous Chinese cycle (CLTC). To give you an idea, the Yuan Up, the entry-level version, delivers 95 hp and about 300 km of declared range.
