Construction of Jaconé Port Begins This Semester and Is Expected to Create 13 Thousand Jobs, Billionaire Royalties, and a New Economic Hub in Maricá.
The construction of Jaconé Port, officially named Ponta Negra Terminal (TPN), is confirmed to start in the second half of 2025. The project is considered an economic turning point for the municipality and the state of Rio de Janeiro.
Billion-Dollar Investment and Job Creation Put Maricá on the Development Map
With an estimated budget of R$ 1.5 billion, the construction of Jaconé Port is expected to generate around 13 thousand direct and indirect jobs.
Additionally, the expectation is that the municipality will collect approximately R$ 1.3 billion per year in royalties, boosting Maricá to a new level of revenue and economic prominence.

With 195 meters and 19,235 gross tons, the REV Ocean will be the world’s largest yacht when it is delivered at the end of 2026, and this Norwegian vessel, which took more than eight years to build, is not just a billionaire’s luxury, but a floating scientific laboratory funded by the same man who built his fortune by fishing and drilling the ocean he now tries to save.
During the announcement, the Mayor of Maricá, Washington Quaquá, highlighted the decisive role of the state government.
“This port was only possible thanks to the always very democratic, republican, and proactive intervention of Governor Cláudio Castro. It’s been 15 years of struggle,” Quaquá declared.
The governor reinforced the potential of the terminal:
“You take advantage of a natural blessing, which is oil, and turn it into development, into ventures and jobs for the population,” Castro stated.
Jaconé Port Will Be a Reference in Sustainable Exports and Innovation
The Ponta Negra Terminal will be integrated into a modern logistics platform focused on export. One of the main differentiators of the project is the focus on sustainability and technology.
The region will also be transformed into a Free Trade Zone (ZPE), which should attract new industries and further increase the generation of qualified jobs.
Supreme Court Authorizes Start of Construction After Rejecting Opposing Appeal
The last legal barrier to the project was removed in April when the Supreme Federal Court (STF) rejected the final appeal that sought to prevent the construction of Jaconé Port.
Since then, the mayor has reaffirmed that the terminal is one of the main priorities of his administration.
