Councilors of São João da Barra Accept Public Pressure Due to Low Number of Hiring Local Residents at Porto do Açú and Andrade Gutierrez
The Porto do Açú and the construction of its Thermoelectric Plant, which will be built by Andrade Gutierrez, is among the most anticipated ventures in the state of Rio de Janeiro, both for its potential in the oil and gas production chain and for generating income and jobs, especially for the residents of São João da Barra, where the project is already underway in its initial phase for the preparation of the construction site. Speaking of employability, which is the major controversy, more important data has been revealed following public pressure from local residents.

AG Reveals Some Numbers
In response, Andrade Gutierrez revealed that so far, there are 75 operational staff working in the initial phase of the project. Of these, 26 are residents of São João da Barra, and the rest are from outside. The councilors naturally found these numbers very low and demanded detailed information regarding the number of vacancies and social responsibility plans with the municipality. AG emphasizes that the works are in the land preparation and construction site phase; when the thermoelectric plant begins to “be built in fact,” local residents will be hired, provided they have the necessary qualifications and skills for the project’s demands.
