The unloading of the ship that will dock at the Port of Açu will be done by trucks to the cities in the interior of Minas Gerais. The agreement, already in effect, will allow for the receipt of more fertilizer ships until March 2021.

At the multicargo terminal, new warehouses have been set up to meet the national demand for fertilizers. In addition, there is also the possibility of storing and handling other types of inputs during the off-season, such as agricultural and mineral bulk solids.
“We will have the capacity to operate a ship of approximately 25,000 tons per month and estimate 150,000 tons handled in this first year of operation, aside from the potential for moving other products, still in negotiation,” explains João Braz, Director of Terminals and Logistics at Port of Açu Operations.
Brazil is considered the fourth-largest consumer of fertilizers in the world and imports about 77% of what it consumes locally. With this service in its portfolio, Port of Açu aims to meet domestic demand, especially in the Minas Gerais market, where there is a large base of distributors established.
“The search for logistics options for supplying our units is important to bring competitiveness to the company. We see Port of Açu as an alternative entry point for fertilizers in the region where Fertipar Sudeste operates. We are optimistic, as it may create another good logistics operation option for us,” says Rodolfo Kieser, Superintendent of Fertipar.
For Port of Açu, this project is also seen as the starting point for the industrialization phase of the port complex in the petrochemical sector, which will be consolidated with the attraction of industries to this fertile business environment.
