Pre-Salt Discovery by Petrobras in 2012 Will Have Billion-Dollar Investment from Equinor, One of the Major Global Companies in the Oil and Gas Sector
Earlier this month, Equinor, a Norwegian oil and gas company, announced a US$ 8 billion investment in phase 1 of the Bacalhau field, located in the Santos Basin, in a pre-salt area discovered by Petrobras in 2012. The investment is in partnership with ExxonMobil, a North American oil and gas company, Petrogal Brasil, and Pré-Sal Petróleo S.A., the representative of the Union in the billion-dollar deal.
This Tuesday, the 8th, João Dória, Governor of São Paulo, published celebrating Equinor’s investment in the pre-salt area. On the same day, the governor had already received Equinor’s Executive Vice President, Al Cook, and Verônica Coelho, the company’s president in Brazil.
Governor João Dória Guaranteed That the Business Will Generate Around 3,000 Jobs in São Paulo.
“What great news. Equinor, one of the largest oil and gas companies in the world, announced an investment of 8 billion in the State of São Paulo for oil and gas exploration in the Santos Basin. This investment starts now, and over the next 4 years it will be materialized… and will also generate 3,000 new jobs,” published João Dória on Twitter. See below the post.

Seismic surveys conducted by Russian ships in Antarctica have indicated estimates of up to 511 billion barrels of oil in the Weddell Sea, almost double the reserves of Saudi Arabia, in a scenario that raises alarms in the United Kingdom about the risk to the treaty that has prohibited mining on the continent since 1959.

Farmer drills well in Ceará in search of water, accidentally finds crude oil and sees million-dollar discovery hindered by a rule that completely changes the future of the site.
The project involves the development of 19 subsea wells that will be connected to a production, storage, and transfer unit. Everything has already been approved by the ANP (National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels) last March.

Al Cook also commented on the meeting he had with the Governor of the State of São Paulo: “We are very happy to be able to work with the State of São Paulo, where we have always had great relationships, support, and assistance. Also with the scientists from Fapesp, with whom we have worked since 2019 on engineering research […] We are very proud to make this investment in São Paulo.”
The business is enormous and will inject a lot of money into the economy. Oil extraction was scheduled for 2024; however, with the pandemic still having high numbers, there is no forecast.
