Thieves Stole Equipment and Cables From a Solar Power Plant in Areias (SP), Causing Estimated Damage of R$ 1 Million. City Hall Seeks to Recover the System and Strengthen Security.
A theft at a solar power plant operated by the City Hall of Areias, in the interior of São Paulo, caused an estimated loss of approximately R$ 1 million. The crime occurred in the early hours of Wednesday (29) and was discovered by an employee arriving to start work.
According to the police report, the thieves took four inverters, valued at approximately R$ 120 thousand each, in addition to cables, wires, and circuit breakers. The site, which is located by the side of a highway, showed several signs of burglary and vandalism.

In a video posted on his official accounts, the administrator explained that the municipality is still paying off the investment made in the implementation of the solar power plant, which was carried out during the previous administration. “It’s a shame for our municipality. Our Secretary of Public Security is already taking steps with the Civil Police station. We commit to recovering this plant and keeping it 100% for the municipality of Areias,” he stated.
Secretariat of Public Security and Civil Police Investigate the Case
Shortly after the crime was discovered, the employee of the plant alerted the Secretary of Public Security of Areias, who went to the site and confirmed the theft. The Municipal Civil Guard was also called to assist with the incident, and the case was registered at the Civil Police station.
So far, no one has been arrested, and authorities are working to identify those responsible. Meanwhile, the city hall is evaluating emergency measures to prevent further attacks and ensure the continuity of the solar energy generation project, which is considered essential to reduce electricity costs in the municipality.
