With the launch of the Tera, the versions of the Polo face stock shortages and order issues. Volkswagen assures that everything is normal, but dealerships in the country are facing serious difficulties!
The arrival of the Volkswagen Tera in the Brazilian market may be an important milestone for the German brand, but it has also brought to light a major issue with its most popular compact model: the Polo. The information comes from the portal Auto+
Several dealerships are facing difficulties in meeting the demand for some versions of the hatch, which is generating considerable concern.
Although Volkswagen has assured that everything is in order, the situation at the dealerships reveals a picture of uncertainty.

Dealerships Face Stock Shortages of the Polo
According to information from dealerships consulted by the Auto+ portal, the main challenge lies in the intermediate versions of the Polo.
The 170 TSI manual version, followed by the MPI and Sense variants, has extremely reduced stock.
These models have lower sales volumes and, consequently, present an order restriction.
A dealership located in the interior of São Paulo revealed that stock is already very low, and orders for the MPI and 170 TSI manual versions are stuck in the dealership’s system.
On the other hand, a dealership in Rio de Janeiro reported that not even the Polo MPI is available for customers.
“Here, only the Polo Track has arrived, the MPI has low demand, and it seems that Volkswagen is no longer manufacturing this version”, commented a salesperson.
Volkswagen Confirms Everything is Normalized
When asked about the situation of the Polo versions, Volkswagen, in an official statement to Auto+, assured that “all versions of the New Polo continue to be produced and sold normally”.
The brand, however, acknowledged that some dealerships are facing specific issues and promised that, soon, production will be increased to regularize supply, especially for the versions with higher demand.
Changes in Polo Production: Focus on Tera and Polo Track
The production situation at Volkswagen in Brazil is undergoing significant adjustments.
The Polo Track, the most popular version of the compact hatch, will be produced at the factory in São Bernardo do Campo, in the state of São Paulo.
This move marks the return of the model to the Anchieta plant, which had previously transferred all Polo production to Taubaté.
However, this change comes at a time of high demand, as the São Bernardo factory will also be responsible for producing the newly launched Tera, the brand’s new subcompact SUV.
With the Tera being produced at the same plant, Volkswagen will need to divide its production capacity between the Polo Track and the Tera, which is considered the company’s new flagship in Brazil.
According to the portal Autos Segredos, the Taubaté factory will be responsible for producing the less sought-after Polo versions, such as the MPI, 170 TSI manual, Comfortline, and Highline variants.
Meanwhile, São Bernardo will handle the responsibility of supplying the market with the Polo Track, a model that leads sales and remains the most sought after.
The Impact of Tera on Polo Production
The new production scenario at Volkswagen in Brazil reflects a broader movement by the automaker to adapt to the current consumption profile of the market.
The Tera, with a higher price and greater added value, is a strategic bet by the brand for 2025.
The subcompact model, alongside other SUVs, promises to capture the attention of consumers who are seeking more technology and comfort, essential characteristics for the new models that have been successful in the Brazilian market.
It is expected that, with the increased production of the Tera, there will be a migration of consumers from the more expensive versions of the Polo, such as the Comfortline and Highline, to the variants of the new SUV.
This movement, however, could have a negative impact on Polo sales, as the cheaper versions of the model will no longer have space to compete with the prices of the Tera, especially when it receives entry-level versions like the MPI, which would bring prices even closer.
The GTS Version of the Polo Will No Longer Be Produced
Another point that may affect Polo demand is the end of the GTS version, which will be replaced by the Nivus GTS.
The change in Volkswagen’s model portfolio has raised doubts among consumers, as the GTS version of the Polo was seen as a high-performance sports option within the line.
The brand, by replacing the Polo GTS with the Nivus GTS, bets on a more modern model, aligned with market trends.
The Nivus GTS, therefore, is expected to attract the attention of consumers who would have previously opted for the Polo GTS, while the Polo model will continue to gain prominence in the more basic versions, such as the Track.
The Polo May Lose Space to the Tera: The Market Transition
With the arrival of the Tera and Volkswagen’s strategic movement, it is natural for the Polo to lose space in the Brazilian market.
The model, which previously led sales in the hatchback segment, now faces an intense competitive scenario with the arrival of new SUVs and the changing behavior of Brazilian consumers, who are increasingly inclined to choose taller models with greater added value.
Furthermore, the narrowing price gap between the Polo and the Tera may complicate consumers’ choices, especially since the Tera offers more advanced features and modern design, aspects that the Polo, in its current versions, still cannot compete with effectively.
Volkswagen Tries to Minimize Market Impact
Volkswagen is still trying to maintain a balance between Polo production and the delivery of new Tera versions, in addition to ensuring that stock issues are resolved quickly.
What is certain is that, with the high demand for the Tera and a focus on producing the more profitable versions of the Polo, the brand may face challenges in meeting all consumers who still consider the compact hatch their first purchase option.
Now, with changes in the production line and the Tera gaining strength in the market, the Polo finds itself in a delicate position.
Consumers who prefer the model for its practicality and cost-effectiveness may find themselves drawn to more modern alternatives, like the Tera, which combines SUV characteristics with a competitive price.
Volkswagen, however, seeks to maintain Polo’s tradition while also investing in the future with the launch of new models.
