In 2019, Brazil consumed an average of 64.6 million cubic meters of gas per day, according to the Brazilian Association of Gas Distribution Companies (Abegás). In the same year, the country imported 9.8 billion cubic meters, according to the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP).
“The opening of the gas market with the new Gas Law and new producers will attract investments, increase our production capacity, generate jobs, and reduce costs and the final price of products. This is vital for economic recovery,” emphasized Berger.
Senator Fernando Collor (Pros-AL) also highlighted the economic potential of the legislation, if approved.
“The new gas law will modernize the market and help Brazil grow, in addition to increasing competition in the sector, attracting investments, and generating jobs. It is urgent to modernize market relations,” he wrote.
