The target audience includes teachers and managers of basic education in the Maranhão public networks, who will be able, through this training, not only to enrich their pedagogical practices but also to promote a more democratic education that respects ethnic and cultural diversity.
Course Structure and Content
With a total workload of 120 hours, the course is organized into four modules that address different fundamental aspects for an educational practice focused on diversity and inclusion.
According to the announcement published by UEMA, the modules have been carefully structured to provide a comprehensive view of Brazil’s ethnic-racial and quilombola reality:
- Ethnic-Racial and Quilombola Overview in Brazil – lasting 30 hours, this module focuses on providing a historical and cultural panorama, essential for understanding the roots of the country’s ethnic diversity.
- Cultures and Territorialities – with an additional 30 hours, it explores the multiple identities and territorialities of quilombola communities, as well as how these aspects impact education.
- Antiracist Education in Practice – in this 30-hour module, participants will learn methodologies and pedagogical practices that promote antiracist education in the classroom.
- Democratic Management for Diversity – with more 30 hours, it addresses the importance of democratic and inclusive management within educational institutions, equipping managers to create an environment that embraces diversity.
All activities will be conducted in a Virtual Learning Environment (AVA), with synchronous and asynchronous sessions, under the supervision of qualified tutors.
This pedagogical mediation ensures that participants will have the necessary support throughout the course, fostering a continuous and interactive learning experience.

According to the UEMA announcement, certification will be granted to all participants who complete the course and achieve a minimum performance of 75% in the proposed activities.
The certificate, recognized by the Ministry of Education (MEC), attests to the total workload of the course and the completion of all curricular components, representing an important differentiator in the curriculum for education professionals.
The Importance of Training Focused on Inclusion
The creation of a course focused on education in ethnic-racial and quilombola relations is not an isolated action.
According to education experts, this type of training represents a significant step toward implementing a more inclusive education aligned with the guidelines of Brazilian cultural diversity.
In a country as heterogeneous as Brazil, developing and strengthening educational practices that respect and value different origins and ethnicities is essential for forming more conscious and socially responsible citizens.
Moreover, according to recent studies in the field of education conducted in Brazil, promoting antiracist education and including quilombola experiences helps to combat prejudices and stigmas still present in society, thus promoting a fairer and more equitable educational environment.
How Will the Course Impact Education in Maranhão?
The training offered by UEMA is a response to the growing need for professionals well-prepared to deal with ethnic and cultural diversity in public schools in Maranhão.
The course enables teachers and managers to develop skills that go beyond theoretical content, promoting an educational practice that respects cultural particularities and contributes to building a more inclusive society.
