The world has bet on green hydrogen as the fuel of the future, but now faces the side effect: producing 1 kilogram requires about 9 liters of ultrapure water, and the largest projects on the planet are precisely in the driest regions of the Earth, where water is already scarce for people.

Eneva Has Already Invested Over R$ 8 Billion in Maranhão
The only company producing gas in the state, Eneva has already invested over R$ 8 billion in the region since it began operations six years ago. In addition to the funding for this new project, Eneva plans to invest an additional R$ 1 billion over the next five years to explore and produce natural gas in the region. Besides the investments already made and the payment of taxes and royalties to the producing states and municipalities – which today exceed R$ 456 million – Eneva also contributes to social development.
The company supports 65 resettled and quilombola communities, conducts environmental and health education programs for students, teachers, and health agents. These projects directly impact more than 20,000 families and 10,000 students in the municipal education network.
Brandão recalled the importance of gas production in Maranhão for the development of the state.
“We are starting another stage of Parnaíba Gas with the fifth plant, an efficient and successful project that will generate more energy, more jobs, and meet the demands of this high-demand region. It is a day of victory and achievement for the people of Maranhão and for Brazil,” said the acting governor.
