Who Can Participate and How Does the Course Work?
The course, entirely free, is aimed at professionals who hold a bachelor’s degree in areas such as health, social sciences, legal studies, humanities, and related fields.
The training is geared towards individuals who wish to act critically and transformatively in the area of public health, specifically addressing the complexities of ethnic-racial relations and their impact on collective health.
With a total workload of 540 hours, the course will be divided between 440 hours of theoretical subjects and 100 hours for the development of the Final Project (TCC).
The classes will primarily be conducted remotely, using distance learning platforms, but there is a possibility of in-person activities.
The course is scheduled to start on April 3, 2025, with the completion of theoretical classes on November 6 of the same year. The delivery of the TCC must be made by April 30, 2026.
According to Fiocruz, only 20 spots will be available for this specialization, which will be distributed between general competition and affirmative actions, with the following breakdown:
- 14 spots for general competition;
- 4 spots for Black individuals (Black and Brown);
- 1 spot for individuals with disabilities (PcD);
- 1 spot for Indigenous individuals.
If the spots reserved for affirmative actions are not filled, they will be redirected to general competition.
Selection Process: Stages and Criteria
The selection process will consist of two stages:
Document Analysis: In this phase, candidates will have their resumes and letters of intent evaluated. This stage will occur between February 3 and 7, 2025.
Eliminatory and Classificatory Interview: Candidates who pass the first stage will undergo an interview, which will be held between February 17 and 21, 2025, preferably via Zoom platform.
Topics Covered in the Course
The course aims to provide a robust and interdisciplinary training, enabling participants to understand and act in response to challenges related to human rights and public health in the Brazilian context.
Among the topics to be covered are:
- Racism and collective health;
- Public policies to combat inequalities;
- Health of Black, Indigenous, and LGBTQIA+ populations;
- Black feminism and women’s health;
- Ethics and human rights in the Unified Health System (SUS);
- Education and promotion of health equity.
The course is coordinated by professors Maria Helena Barros de Oliveira, Ernani Costa Mendes, and Laurenice de Jesus Alves Pires.
This team brings solid academic and practical experience in the areas of public health, human rights, and ethnic-racial relations, ensuring that the course content is current and relevant.

The letter of intent will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

- Alignment with the course objectives;
- Motivation for working in human rights and public health.
The final results of the selection process are expected to be announced on March 3, 2025.
