The Specialization in Critical Practices in English Language Teaching course, in the Distance Education (EAD) mode, is completely free and allows participants to study flexibly, accessing all content online and completing activities according to their routine.

The Specialization: A Critical Look at English Language Teaching

The UFR Specialization course has the main objective of promoting contemporary discussions on English language teaching.

It adopts critical perspectives, addressing themes such as linguistics, teaching, learning, literature, teaching materials, and inclusion.

The pedagogical proposal aims to empower educators to view education in a broader way, always grounding their practices in a solid theoretical foundation.

Throughout the course, participants will have the opportunity to critically reflect on pedagogical practices in teaching the English language, employing contemporary methodologies and exploring new approaches for the classroom.

The content is structured for students to understand the English language not just as a communication tool, but also as a means to broaden cultural and social horizons. This provides a comprehensive and multifaceted education, ready to meet the demands of modern education.

Important Details of the EAD English Language Specialization

The course offers 150 spots, which will be distributed among five in-person support centers: Cuiabá, Jauru, Pedra Preta, Primavera do Leste, and Sapezal.

In each of these locations, 30 spots will be available, making it easier for teachers from different regions to access the course.

Although the course is predominantly online, the EAD model includes in-person support for clarifying doubts and deepening discussions.

The Moodle platform will be the main tool for conducting didactic-pedagogical activities, including forums, assessments, and seminars, in addition to promoting continuous interaction between students and teachers.

The defense of the Final Paper (TCC) will be conducted in person, according to the guidelines of the Pedagogical Project, ensuring that students gain essential practical experience to consolidate their learning during the postgraduate program.

Opportunities and In-Person Support Spots

The fact that the course is offered in different in-person support centers is a significant advantage for students, as it allows direct contact with the university and with colleagues in the field.

For teachers and education professionals who wish to specialize, this format offers the perfect balance between the flexibility of distance education and the necessary in-person interaction for quality training.

These support centers will be located in five municipalities in the state of Mato Grosso: Cuiabá, Jauru, Pedra Preta, Primavera do Leste, and Sapezal.

With 30 spots in each center, the university is committed to providing specialization opportunities for educators from various regions, which expands the reach of the course and democratizes access to quality education.

Enrollment and Selection Process: How to Participate

Enrollment for the Specialization in Critical Practices in English Language Teaching course begins on March 2, 2025, and ends on March 16, 2025.

To enroll, interested parties must access the Competition Management System (SGC), available on the UFR website: https://ufr.edu.br/cev/processo-seletivo-estudante-2025/.

The selection process will be conducted through document analysis, with specific scoring criteria for degrees in Linguistics or Language Studies, experience as a teacher in basic education, among others.

The course offers an excellent opportunity for those with degrees in Linguistics or Language Studies, as these candidates receive extra points in the selection process.

However, professionals from other fields can also apply, with the possibility of being selected based on points obtained from professional experience in education.

Enrollment applications will be analyzed between March 17 and 20, 2025, and the preliminary results will be announced on March 21, 2025.

For those who wish to contest the results, there will be an opportunity to submit appeals between March 22 and 24, 2025. The final results will be published on March 27, 2025, and the approved candidates can enroll between March 28 and 31, 2025, with classes starting in April 2025.
