The Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná (PUC-PR) opened applications for a full scholarship program aimed at promoting social inclusion and expanding access to higher education with free courses. This year, the institution is offering more than 40 fully funded scholarships divided into three specific announcements, aimed at black and mixed-race individuals, refugees, and residents of Vila Torres in Curitiba.
This initiative reflects the university’s commitment to strengthening vulnerable communities and creating opportunities for groups that face historical barriers to accessing quality education.
Scholarships for Black and Mixed-Race Individuals
The most comprehensive announcement of the program offers 30 exclusive scholarships for residents of Curitiba and the metropolitan region who self-identify as black (either black or mixed-race). To participate in the free courses, candidates must meet criteria such as:

Become a pedagogical assistant and earn R$ 1,550 for 20 hours worked: federal university opens free selection until May 22 for audiovisual communication and editorial design in distance education, with results already expected for June.

The Federal Institute offers 445 spots in free technical courses in Building Construction, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Chemistry, Mechanics, and Telecommunications; to become an IFCE student, register by May 24th.

Take a 100% online and free Nursing course at the Federal University: UFPB calls 5 thousand technicians for specializations with up to 300 hours, training in emergency, surgical center, and neonatal ICU, in addition to a certificate recognized by SUS.

Take a 100% free distance learning course at USP: the university opens 10,000 spots with a free certificate in training on AI, data-driven marketing, CAC, ROI, and automation, with live online classes for all of Brazil in May 2026.
- Family income per capita of up to 1.5 minimum wage;
- Age of up to 35 years old by 2024;
- Completed high school;
- Absence of a higher education degree.
The selection process includes three stages: an in-person objective test, document analysis, and a self-identification procedure. The free applications must be submitted by December 2 of 2024, and the test will be administered on January 11, 2025, at 1 PM, at the Curitiba Campus.
Scholarships for Refugees for Free Courses
The Refugee Reception Program or Humanitarian Visa Holders at PUC-PR offers 11 spots, distributed among the campuses in Curitiba, Londrina, and Toledo. The opportunities include free courses such as Design, Nursing, Law, Administration, Psychology, and others.
The selection process for refugees consists of an eliminatory writing test and document analysis. Candidates must prove their refugee status recognized by Conare or humanitarian visa, in addition to providing proof of high school completion.
The applications can be submitted by January 8, 2025, with details of the scheduled test sent via email the day before it is held.
Scholarships for Residents of Vila Torres
PUC-PR also reserved five scholarships for free courses for residents of the Vila Torres community in Curitiba. Candidates must reside in the area defined in the announcement, be up to 29 years old, have a family income per capita of up to 1.5 minimum wage, complete high school, and not hold a college degree.
In addition to full exemption from tuition, beneficiaries receive a monthly financial aid of R$ 400.00, aimed at covering costs related to staying in the undergraduate course. The selection test will take place on January 11, 2025, and applications can be made until December 2, 2024 .
