After Considering An Electric As A Replacement, Renault Confirms The Development Of The New Generation Of The Clio, Expected For The End Of 2025 And Inspired By The Most Recent Models Of The Brand.
Renault surprised the European market by announcing that the new generation of the Clio is on the way, breaking with the initial idea of replacing the traditional hatch with an equivalent electric model. Now, the French manufacturer is working on the sixth lineage of the compact car, scheduled to hit the streets at the end of 2025, already as the 2026 line.
The latest information about the project indicates that Renault aims to update the design of the hatch, keeping it relevant in a scenario that values both efficiency and modernity. The new generation of the Clio is expected to have slightly different dimensions, possibly longer and lower, following the visual pattern of Renault’s latest releases. The inspiration from the Mégane E-Tech and the Emblème concept suggests bold lines, with narrower headlights, a hexagonal grille, and a more aggressive front bumper.
Renault Reveals New Generation Of The Clio

A projection released by the Spanish site Motor.es anticipates the look of the future hatch in a striking blue tone, reinforcing the modern identity of the new generation of the Clio. Inside, rumors suggest a wide dashboard with horizontal screens, abandoning the current vertical layout. Additionally, Renault may relocate the gear lever to the steering column, enhancing the sense of interior space.

Engine
Mechanically, the new generation of the Clio will feature gasoline TCe engines accompanied by hybrid systems, delivering powers between 115 and 140 hp. A more powerful hybrid, at 160 hp, is expected to leverage the powertrain from the Dacia Bigster, while diesel options will be excluded.
Renault bets on this strategy after analyzing Clio sales, which totaled 178,902 units in Europe in 2023, a 9% increase compared to the previous year. This consistency in the market motivated the manufacturer to invest in the hatch again, rather than fully transitioning to an electric model.
Polo Also Stays Alive
Renault’s decision follows the trend of other brands, such as Volkswagen, which also chose to keep the Polo alive for longer before risking a complete transition to electric models.
This cautious approach shows that, despite the growing interest in EVs, the new generation of the Clio will still benefit from the balance between more efficient thermal engines and technological evolution, keeping pace with the European market and attracting customers who value tradition, design, and efficiency in one package.
