CATL Developed a ‘Super Battery’ for Electric Cars and Chinese Manufacturers Are Already Eyeing. New Component Delivers Range of Up to 1 Thousand Km.
The super CATL battery, presented a few weeks ago, promises a range of up to 1 thousand km, ultrafast charging for electric cars, and already has several interested clients, including two manufacturers from China. The third generation of CATL’s battery system will be used for the first time by Zeekr in the upcoming Zeekr 009 model in Q1 2023 and also in the 001 model in Q2 of the same year.
CATL Enters Agreements with Chinese Manufacturers
On the same day, CATL also signed a five-year strategic cooperation agreement with Seres, one of the electric vehicle manufacturers based in China, which plans to use the Qilin battery system in its new premium electric vehicle brand Aito, operating in partnership with Huawei.

It is worth noting that Seres is launching its first battery models in Brazil. According to the press release, the new models from the Chinese manufacturer will be equipped with CATL technologies. It is not yet known when and which models will be the first to use the components.
Chinese Manufacturer Offers 3 Models
According to the statement, the conclusion of the strategic cooperation agreement is the global update of the partnership that both parties developed over the past year. With CATL’s third-generation CTP battery technology, the Qilin batteries to be used in the new AITO models mark the highest level of integration in the world for battery systems.
Currently, the Chinese manufacturer offers 3 electric cars, also equipped with CATL batteries. They are: Aito M5, announced in December of last year and on sale since March, the Aito M7, announced in July and being sold since August, and Aito M5 EV, announced in July, available for pre-order with a launch expected in September.
CATL emphasizes that the first customers for the new batteries were announced just two months after the unveiling of the new system. Mass production of the batteries will begin early next year.
Specifications of CATL Battery
CATL is supplying components to almost all manufacturers in China. It is believed that these will gradually transition to more advanced and better technology; however, the first two brands are among the youngest and the premium sector, suggesting that, at least initially, the Qilin battery system will be marketed for top-tier models.
Among the standout specifications, the system offers a volume utilization efficiency of 72%, ultrafast charging at 4C (SOC of 10-80% in 10 minutes), and energy density of up to 255 Wh/kg (NCM) or more than 160 Wh/kg (LFP).
