The oil sector in the United States recorded a discreet yet relevant movement in the week ending November 21. According to data from Baker Hughes, the total number of rigs in operation has risen again, albeit at a moderate pace.
Although the increase indicates a certain warming, the country remains far from the levels observed a year ago, revealing a market still cautious amid global uncertainties.
USA Expands Oil Operations, But Remains Below Annual Pace
According to Baker Hughes, the number of oil rigs increased by two units, reaching 419 structures. Even so, the total remains 60 below the levels reported in the same period last year. This annual decline highlights a sector that, while showing signs of recovery, still operates under strong influence from fluctuations in international prices and energy transition policies.

Meanwhile, the natural gas segment advanced with greater consistency. The USA added more two rigs, totaling 127 units. In year-over-year comparison, there was a gain of 28 rigs, showing that gas production maintains a more stable trajectory than oil.
With the sum of the two segments, the country reached 554 active rigs, five more than the previous week. Still, the total remains 29 below what was recorded a year ago, reinforcing the trend of gradual recovery.
Canada Also Registers Increase, But Still Falls Behind Annual Performance
Meanwhile, Canada showed significant improvement in the weekly scenario. The country ended the period with 195 rigs, an increase of seven units. However, this number is still six less than observed in the same period last year.
In the oil sector, Canadians totaled 128 rigs after the addition of four structures. In the gas segment, there was an increase of three rigs, raising the total to 67. Compared to last year, Canada lost five oil rigs and maintained the number of units dedicated to gas steady.
