Discovery Is in the Pre-Salt of the Santos Basin in the Southern Block of Gato do Mato and the Well Is the 13th with Indications of Oil Discovered This Year
Released in June to Begin Drilling, Shell has just announced the discovery of oil at a water depth of 2,067 meters to the south of the Gato do Mato block in the pre-salt of the Santos basin.
The well, named 3-SHEL-30-RJS, where the discovery was made, was drilled by the Brava Star rig, contracted by the Anglo-Dutch oil company from Constellation.
The rig began drilling just over a month ago and has already delivered the first results. The equipment belongs to Constellation (formerly Queiroz Galvão Oil and Gas).
The rig was rented to drill four wells in the Gato do Mato asset, the contract duration was one year and began this year.

Scientists warn that a capital city with millions of inhabitants could run out of water by 2030, while entire megacities enter an invisible crisis by draining ancient aquifers faster than nature can replenish them, pushing populations towards dry taps, depleted wells, and urban water collapse.

One of Disney’s most famous former stars dropped everything, stepped out of the spotlight, bet on elite universities, and became CEO of a space startup with an estimated fortune of R$ 240 million.
The Asset
Shell acquired the southern block of Gato do Mato in partnership with the French company Total in the second production sharing round of the ANP in 2017, having paid a bonus of R$ 100 million.
The development project for the production of the assets provides for the installation of an FPSO with a capacity to produce 90,000 bopd and compress 8.5 million m³/d of natural gas, with the first oil expected from the third quarter of 2023.
With this discovery by Shell, the number of wells with indications of oil and/or natural gas in the country in 2019 reaches thirteen; the other discoveries were in two production sharing areas: Peroba, operated by Petrobras, and North of Carcará by Equinor.
