The Giant Shell Takes A Technological Leap With Its Vito Platform, Introducing Augmented Reality Features And High-Power Jet Turbines.
In an unprecedented initiative that could transform the entire oil and gas sector, Shell is raising the bar for innovation with its Vito platform. The megastructure, positioned in the Gulf of Mexico, is now a beacon of modernity, setting new standards for efficiency and safety.
The most notable feature of the Vito platform is, without a doubt, its state-of-the-art control room. Equipped with cutting-edge technologies, this room allows for remote monitoring of all platform activities. To ensure uninterrupted operation, an identical room in New Orleans is also connected in real-time, ready to take control if necessary.
The Revolution Of Augmented Reality In Oil And Gas Platforms
In a pioneering advancement, Shell has implemented augmented reality to maximize operational efficiency. This enables real-time communication between experts based in New Orleans and the Vito team, allowing for guidance on complex tasks by highly qualified professionals.

Sustainable And Efficient Energy
If technological innovation is already impressive, energy efficiency is another game changer. Four jet turbines, each with 9,000 horsepower, power the giant pumps of Vito. Together, they generate a total of 25.6 megawatts of energy, enough to supply around 20,000 homes. However, all this power is directed to the platform’s own operations, including extraction pumps with motors that range from 1,500 to over 3,000 horsepower.
Shell’s Vito Oil And Gas Platform
“This platform has been designed to operate for at least 25 years. It reflects Shell’s commitment to efficiency and sustainability, not just for us, but for future generations,” says one of the lead engineers of the Vito project.
The oil and gas extracted are not mere resources; they are the raw materials for mobility and modern life. “If we think long term, Vito is not just an exploration platform, but a structure that enables the well-being of millions of people. It’s a project that the entire team, and the country, can be proud of,” adds the engineer.
