Announcement Was Made by Shell at the Beginning of the Week and Exploration Activities in the Campos Basin Will Begin Soon
Shell has begun drilling the exploratory well 1-SHEL-35-RJS in block C-M-659, located in the Campos Basin, according to information from the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP). The operator well, named Suçuarana-1, is being drilled at a water depth of 2,900 meters.
According to the operating license issued by the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama), Shell may drill up to six wells in the Campos Basin block, consisting of one firm well and five contingent wells. The license also authorizes the execution of up to four formation tests in C-M-659.
The C-M-659 well block in the Campos Basin was acquired in the 16th Bidding Round held in 2019 and is operated by a consortium formed by Shell (40%), Chevron (35%), and QatarEnergy (25%). The expected completion date for the exploratory phase is November 14, 2027.

Well to Be Explored by Shell in the Campos Basin Was the Only One So Far
According to information from ANP, so far, only this well has been drilled in block C-M-659 of the Campos Basin. As previously reported by PetróleoHoje, the drilling campaign in the Campos Basin block will be conducted by the semisubmersible Noble Developer from Maersk Drilling, which will also conduct intervention operations in wells at the Parque das Conchas.
In the Campos Basin, Shell operates four blocks and five fields, including C-M-659 (40%), C-M-713 (40%), C-M-757 (100%), C-M-791 (40%), Abalone (50%), Argonauta (50%), and Ostra (50%), which form the Parque das Conchas, in addition to Bijupirá (80%, currently being relinquished) and Salema (80%).
In total, Shell holds interests in 36 blocks in Brazil, including 19 in the Santos Basin, 10 in Barreirinhas, four in Campos, and three in Potiguar. Regarding fields in development, production, and relinquishment, the company has interests in 16 in the country, with 11 in Santos and five in the Campos Basin.
