The Italian Villas Project: A Financial and Social Incentive
According to the CNN Brasil portal, several villages in Calabria are involved in this innovative project. The idea is to attract new residents to villages with fewer than 2.000 inhabitants, some located near the sea and others on mountain slopes.
However, it's not just no-strings-attached money. New residents must launch a small business, which can be something from scratch or an existing activity in the village.
Additionally, there are additional requirements. Interested parties, for example, must move to Calabria within 90 days of approving the application, be under 40 years of age, and establish permanent residence in the chosen village.
According to Gianluca Gallo, regional councilor, those approved will receive between €800 and €1.000 per month for up to three years, in addition to one-off financing for launching new businesses.
“Active Residence Income” and the Economic Impact
Named “active residence income”, the project seeks to revitalize Calabria, making the region attractive for remote workers and entrepreneurs. Gianpietro Coppola, mayor of Altomonte, explained that this approach aims to renew small communities more effectively than the one-euro house sales initiatives that have made headlines recently.
With the application online Scheduled to be launched soon, authorities have already invested more than €700 in the project. The expectation is that, if successful, the model will be expanded to other larger villages, with up to 3.000 residents.
