Spotify Jam Arrives on Android Auto: Control Car Music in Groups and in Real Time
The Spotify Jam, one of the most popular social features of the streaming app, is set to land on Android Auto and vehicles with Google Built-In. This news will be made possible thanks to the new updates that Google has promoted and announced during Google I/O 2025, an event where Google presented several improvements for automotive applications.
The functionality of Spotify will allow creating collaborative playlists in real-time, where anyone in the car can add, remove, or change the songs in the queue directly from their own smartphone, without needing to interact with the vehicle’s multimedia system.
What is Spotify Jam and How Does It Work in the Car?
The Spotify Jam functions as a collaborative music room. The person who starts the session generates a QR Code, which can be scanned by other passengers, allowing everyone to participate in the same playlist, adding songs and controlling what plays in real-time.

Harley-Davidson created an entry-level motorcycle that seems impossible for those who only know the brand’s big bikes: the X440 uses a 440 cc single-cylinder engine, delivers 27 hp, 38 Nm, a declared fuel consumption of 35 km/l, and showcases a small, rational, and much more accessible Harley in India.

Mitsubishi confirms the triumphant return of a car beloved by Brazilians that was discontinued after almost 40 years, based on the Triton, 4×4, and targets rival Toyota Land Cruiser in a plan of 13 SUVs.
Now, with the integration to Android Auto, it will be possible to:
- Start a Jam session directly on the car screen;
- Allow passengers to scan the QR Code on the console to participate;
- Control the music using their own phone without distracting the driver;
- Discover songs, skip tracks, go back, add and rearrange the queue, all safely and intuitively.
This feature eliminates the classic problem of “passing the phone forward” or asking the passenger to change the playlist. Everyone in the car can participate, whether from the back seat, the front, or even starting the session before getting in the car.
New Generation of Apps on Android Auto
The arrival of Spotify Jam is part of a larger update to how media applications function on Android Auto. Google has launched new app templates on the Android for Cars App Library, optimized to offer safer and distraction-free interactions.
These templates include:
- Media Playback Template: playback screen with customized interactions;
- Sectioned Item Template: allows for exploring catalogs and discovering music safely;
- Integration with tabs, login, and QR Codes directly on the car interface.
Additionally, these new standards are already active on Android Auto and will also come to Android Automotive OS (Google Built-In) by the end of this year.
When? The Spotify Jam on Android Auto will be released in the coming months, according to the official announcement during Google I/O. For cars with Google Built-In systems, the feature will arrive shortly after, still in 2025.
With this update, driving while listening to music becomes an even more enjoyable, collaborative, and modern experience, especially on trips, parties, or rides with friends.
Spotify is also developing a “next-generation experience” for vehicles, based on Google’s new APIs and frameworks, which means more exciting features are on the way in the coming months.
