The Combination of High-Quality, Low-Friction Shell Fuels and Lubricants Made the Natural Gas Engine an Excellent Choice for the Next Evolution of the Starship
Shell, globally known for selling fuels, is committed to enhancing technologies that reduce consumption and emissions from heavy trucks. On May 5th, the company launched the Shell Starship 3.0 truck, the third version of the model developed since 2018.
Natural Gas Engine Produced by Shell
The truck is equipped with a 15-liter Cummins X15N engine, which runs on natural gas produced by Shell, significantly reducing carbon emissions. According to the truckers’ blog, the fuel is produced from organic waste, known as biogas, which can be mixed with natural gas obtained from oil extraction.
The Starship 3.0 truck features a fully aerodynamic cab, which significantly reduces aerodynamic drag, and uses low rolling resistance tires produced by Bridgestone. These technologies help lower fuel consumption and, consequently, carbon emissions.

Tests of the Truck That Reduces Fuel Consumption in the United States
The Starship 3.0 truck will begin transporting loads across the United States starting in August, on trips between San Diego, California, and Jacksonville, Florida. During the trips, the results obtained will be analyzed by the North American Council for Freight Efficiency (NACFE).
“The combination of high-quality, low-friction Shell fuels and lubricants made the natural gas engine an excellent choice for the next evolution of the Starship,” said Dr. Selda Gunsel, president of Shell Global Solutions and vice president of fuels and lubricants technology at Shell. The company is committed to leading the way in helping to decarbonize the heavy transport sector.
