The Contract Signed Between Petrobras and TechnipFMC Provides for the Supply of Over 10 Km of Flexible Pipes for Oil Exploration in the Brazilian Pre-Salt
The Petrobras, Brazilian state oil and gas giant, has signed a contract with TechnipFMC for the supply of flexible pipes intended for the offshore pre-salt fields in Brazil. This contract, considered “significant,” includes the design and manufacturing of 14 kilometers of gas injection risers, along with related services such as packaging and storage, according to the Offshore Energy website.
Jonathan Landes, President of Subsea at TechnipFMC, highlighted the long-standing partnership between the two companies, stating: “We have an established team that has earned Petrobras’ trust over many years of collaboration. We are very pleased to once again work with a valuable customer to help them ensure success in their projects.”
This contract further strengthens the collaboration between TechnipFMC and Petrobras, highlighting TechnipFMC’s expertise in the offshore industry and its ability to provide high-quality solutions for challenging projects such as pre-salt exploration.

Expansion of Projects in the Pre-Salt
Petrobras recently announced its ambitious plans to bring 11 additional FPSO units into operation in the offshore pre-salt layer of Brazil by 2027. These units have the potential to significantly increase production, contributing to the goal of reaching 2.4 million barrels of oil equivalent (boe).
So far, Petrobras has already put two new FPSO units into production in the pre-salt: the P-71 in the Itapu field and the FPSO Almirante Barroso in the Búzios field, both since December 2022. The third unit, FPSO Sepetiba, is expected to come into operation in the Mero field by the end of this year. These developments highlight Petrobras’ commitment to expanding its operations in the pre-salt.
Support for Petrobras’ Installed Base in Brazil
In addition to the flexible pipe contract, TechnipFMC has a field life services contract with Petrobras. This means that the company provides support to Petrobras’ installed base in its offshore operations in Brazil, ensuring the maintenance and efficient operation of its subsea systems.
TechnipFMC, headquartered in the UK, has also expanded its operations beyond Brazil, recently securing a contract in Angola for the installation of flexible pipes and associated subsea structures in a life extension project operated by TotalEnergies EP Angola.
This ongoing partnership and the acquisition of new contracts highlight TechnipFMC’s fundamental role in the offshore oil and gas industry, as well as its dedication to supporting the development and expansion of its customers’ operations worldwide.
