Macaé received on Monday (26) the installation license for the natural gas unit of the Macaé Port Terminal (Tepor) from the State Government. The expectation is that 25,000 jobs will be generated with the arrival of the UPGN.
The Government of Rio de Janeiro, through the State Institute of Environment (Inea), delivered on Tuesday (26) to the City Hall of Macaé, the license for the installation of a Natural Gas Processing Unit (UPGN) at the Macaé Port Terminal (Tepor). This step fulfills another mandatory phase of the project’s installation process. According to the Governor of Rio de Janeiro, Cláudio Castro, Tepor is an essential piece for the state’s development, as it will involve port activities to meet the growing supply demand of the oil and gas chain in the Northern Fluminense region.
Natural Gas Unit at Tepor Will Have a Capacity of 60 Million m³/Day
According to Castro, the terminal’s installation in Macaé estimates private investments of almost R$ 8 billion, in addition to generating 5,000 direct jobs and another 20,000 indirect jobs, as well as the potential expansion of tax revenue. When completed and operational, Tepor’s UPGN will have a processing capacity of 60 million m³ per day of natural gas.

According to Cássio Coelho, Secretary of Economic Development, Energy, and International Relations, the installation of the UPGN at the Macaé Port Terminal is strategic and will be an essential vector for attracting gas-intensive industries.

The natural gas processing unit at Tepor in Macaé is another step towards energy security and a great opportunity to show that it is possible to protect the environment and boost production activity when using environmental public policies in a technical and responsible manner.
City Hall of Macaé Discusses with Firjan on Works for the Development of the Municipality
Welberth Rezende, Mayor of Macaé, received in his office the President of the Commission of the Federation of Industries of the State of Rio (Firjan), on April 19, Gualter Scheles Junior, to discuss essential topics for the municipality’s advancement.
Among the topics discussed in the meeting were the revitalization of the current bus station, construction of Santa Tereza Road, and the upcoming edition of the Brazil Offshore Fair, which is scheduled to take place in 2023.
In November of last year, the mayor received news of R$ 150 million in investments from the Government of the State during a visit from the state Secretary of Infrastructure and Works, Max Lemos (PROS), which will focus on infrastructure works in the municipality. Among the projects coming from this state funding are drainage and paving works on Santa Tereza Road, and several other actions in various parts of the municipality, all scheduled to begin in the first quarter of this year.

Tepor emerged as a key piece for the economic development of the municipality. It will be a highly specialized terminal to meet the demand of the support industry for oil and gas activities efficiently, in addition to providing solutions for the transport of goods from other areas.
Its land area occupies 6 million m² and includes storage yards and bonded warehouses. It includes an Oil Storage Terminal, a future Natural Gas Processing Plant, and also a Fuel Storage Terminal.
