Electric compact decided by General Motors South America will come from China later this year to compete with BYD Dolphin and Geely EX2, reinforcing Chevrolet’s offensive in electrified vehicles while the brand prepares new launches, such as Sonic and Tracker MHEV
General Motors has decided to bring the electric compact Binguo S from China later this year, following the decision of GM South America president, Thomas Owsianski.
According to CNN Brasil, the hatchback, one of the five best-selling in its home country, will arrive in Brazil to face BYD Dolphin and Geely EX2 in the new entry segment of electric vehicles.
The authorized dealer network of the brand has already had access to some of the next steps of the automaker. In the second week of May, GM will launch the new Sonic, an SUV produced in Gravataí, Rio Grande do Sul, with an investment of R$ 1 billion, before resuming the schedule for the arrival of the Chinese electric vehicle.

Binguo S enters Chevrolet’s electric strategy
The Binguo S is part of the partnership with SAIC-GM-Wuling and will be incorporated into Chevrolet’s electric portfolio. The lineup already includes Spark, Captiva EV, Equinox EV, and Blazer EV, expanding the brand’s presence in different segments of the electrified market.
Launched in 2023 as Wuling Binguo S, the model arrives with the mission of occupying space in a category that has gained momentum with Chinese rivals. The hatchback also appears as an alternative to help compensate for lost sales of the Onix in the more expensive versions.
The model measures 4.26 meters in length, 1.78 meters in width, 1.60 meters in height, and has a wheelbase of 2.61 meters. Compared to the BYD Dolphin, it is slightly longer but falls short in wheelbase.
Motor, batteries, and range of the Binguo S
The Binguo S uses a front electric motor with 101 hp of power. The setup will be offered with lithium iron phosphate batteries, known as LFP, in two configurations.
The first option has 31.9 kWh and a range of up to 325 km in the Chinese CLTC cycle. The second has 41.9 kWh and can reach up to 430 km in the same measurement standard.
These figures position the hatch within the entry-level BEV proposal. The model arrives at a time when BYD Dolphin and Geely EX2 are already moving in the same market space.
Cabin focuses on screens and comfort features
Inside, the Binguo S features a cabin with an 8.88-inch digital dashboard and a 12.8-inch floating multimedia center. This setup follows a standard already established among foreign models in this category.
The hatch will have a 50 W induction charger, cruise control, rearview camera, and a sound system with six speakers. In the top-of-the-line version, it adds a 360-degree camera, heated front seats, electric adjustment for the driver’s seat, and mirrors with electric folding.
Binguo EV may enter the lineup, but it depends on the price
In addition to the Binguo S, GM is also evaluating the Wuling Binguo EV as another alternative within the brand’s strategy. The model has a design that may not appeal to everyone, and its presence in the final lineup will depend on commercial positioning.
If the price is too close to that of the Binguo S, the Binguo EV may lose commercial viability. The model is smaller, measuring 3.95 meters in length, with a 68 hp motor and a top speed of 130 km/h.
Even with a range of up to 410 km in the Chinese metric, the Binguo EV seems less competitive against the main rivals. Therefore, its arrival depends on a decision related to cost and the space it would occupy in the lineup.
Chevrolet prepares new phase of electrification
Chevrolet has also presented its next steps in the electrification route to dealers. Among the highlights are the Tracker MHEV, with a mild hybrid system, and the Sonic itself in a next phase.
The strategy follows a similar path to that adopted by Jeep with the Renegade. The automaker is preparing a complete turnaround in the portfolio and a 360-degree repositioning across the entire lineup, while the Binguo S appears as the centerpiece of the new electric offensive.
