With a minimum electrical consumption of 20 VA, the equipment uses water evaporation in the exhaust duct to reduce the internal temperature by an average of 5°C, without adding humidity to the environments, and transforms double-flow ventilation into a natural thermal comfort solution.

With a cooling capacity of 1950 watts, the Air Cooler uses adiabatic cooling to reduce the internal temperature by an average of 5°C, utilizing water evaporation in the residential double-flow ventilation system, without humidifying the environments.

How cooling occurs in the duct

The equipment was created to improve internal thermal comfort in homes affected by higher temperatures. It is installed in the air exhaust duct, before entering the double-flow ventilation unit.

The operation begins when hot air extracted from humid environments passes through an alveolar matrix kept moist by a water dispenser. Upon touching this surface, part of the water evaporates and absorbs thermal energy.

With this exchange, the extracted air loses temperature before proceeding to the system’s heat exchanger. There, it participates in the process that cools the fresh external air, which is then distributed throughout the house.

The proposal is to transform double-flow ventilation into natural air conditioning, without resorting to the traditional operation of an air conditioner. The principle depends on evaporation applied to the existing airflow.

Performance and consumption of the Air Cooler

The evaporative cooler has an efficiency of 80% and a compact structure made of expanded polypropylene, known as EPP. Its dimensions are 258 x 335 x 335 millimeters, compatible with circular ducts up to 200 millimeters.

Despite the indicated cooling capacity, the electrical consumption remains low, limited to 20 VA. The equipment can also consume up to 5 liters of water per hour, depending on operating conditions.

The Air Cooler only operates when there is sufficient airflow, of at least 400 m³/h. This activation avoids unnecessary use and helps limit waste when the ventilation does not meet the expected level.

Humidity control and sale

Hygiene is managed by a thermo-hygrometric sensor, responsible for continuously measuring the conditions of the supplied air. When the relative humidity in the duct exceeds 85%, the humidification process is automatically turned off.

This control helps prevent the proliferation of harmful bacteria and viruses within the system. The Air Cooler is already on sale for about €1700 in France.

The equipment is from Brink Climate Systems, a European manufacturer of double-flow ventilation systems. The technical data mentioned, such as 20 VA consumption, 1,950 watts capacity, 80% efficiency, and compatibility with ducts up to 200 mm, appear in the company’s French technical catalog for the period 2023-2024.
