The evaluation of vehicle safety is undergoing constant updates to reduce risks and damages in accidents, contributing to the manufacturing of safer cars by manufacturers. The safety tests conducted by governmental and independent entities are becoming increasingly stringent and advanced to check for possible vehicle faults.

In 2023, several institutions released the most recent results of their tests, such as the Latin NCap, which highlighted three Volkswagen cars among the 5 safest in Brazil.

To determine which cars are the safest in the world in 2023, the vehicles underwent comprehensive evaluations, divided into 4 distinct test groups:

  1. Crash Resistance
  2. Accident Prevention and Intervention
  3. Safety Belts and Protection Equipment for Children
  4. Other Features for Driving Assistance

It’s time to discover the 10 safest cars in the world in 2023, based on the results released by Euro NCap and IIHS by the end of October.

10. Honda Accord

At the top of the list is the Honda Accord, which recently arrived in Brazil in its new generation. This sedan from the Japanese manufacturer received the highest rating in all evaluated categories, earning the “Top Safety Pick+” seal, the highest safety grade awarded by IIHS.

9. Toyota Camry

The Toyota Camry is another midsize sedan that received the Top Safety Pick+ seal from the Institute, despite not achieving maximum scores in all tests. The model received an acceptable rating for its headlights and average in moderate front crash resistance.

8. BMW X1

The BMW X1 was considered one of the 10 safest cars in the world after the most recent tests from Euro NCap and IIHS, also obtaining the Top Safety Pick+ rating.

The German SUV achieved the highest score in most tests, except for the seatbelt reminders for occupants, where it received only a median score.

7. Volvo XC90 Recharge

Volvo stood out on the list with the XC90 Recharge model, which had exceptional performance in vehicle safety tests, except for the headlights and ease of use of the child protection system, where it received an acceptable rating.

6. Honda CR-V

The Honda CR-V also stood out as one of the safest cars in the world in 2023, receiving top scores in several tests, except for the ease of use of the child protection system, where it received an acceptable rating.

5. Jeep Grand Cherokee

The Jeep Grand Cherokee, recently launched in Brazil, stood out as one of the safest cars in the world in 2023, despite receiving a minimum score in one of the frontal tests.

4. Volkswagen ID.4

The Volkswagen ID.4, a model sold by subscription in Brazil, stood out as one of the safest vehicles in the world in 2023, with positive evaluations in all respects, except for the headlights, where it received an acceptable rating.

3. BMW X3

The BMW X3 ranked among the safest cars in the world in 2023, receiving high scores in various aspects, with the exception of two details related to seatbelt reminders and child protection systems.

2. Tesla Model Y

The Tesla Model Y, manufactured by Elon Musk, promoted passenger safety, except regarding the headlights and the ease of use of child protection systems, where it received acceptable ratings.

1. Mercedes-Benz C-Class

The big winner of the year was the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, which received the highest rating in all aspects in its top-of-the-line version, demonstrating excellent performance in terms of safety. Canaltech recently tested a Mercedes-Benz C200, highlighting its potential as a premium car.
