One of the Most Anticipated Releases of That Year Hit the Market with Style and Efficiency. But Is the Toyota Yaris Good?

The 2019 Toyota Yaris arrived with great expectations in the Brazilian market, especially in the hatch 1.5 XLS version with CVT transmission. With prices starting at R$ 70 thousand, the model occupies an important space in the manufacturer’s lineup, bringing Toyota’s DNA with touches of sophistication, reliability, and an eye-catching design. But is the Yaris good enough to win over the Brazilian public?

Design and Dimensions

Manufactured in Sorocaba, São Paulo, the 2019 Toyota Yaris is derived from the Thai model but with adaptations that make it unique for the national market. It is more spacious than its European version, measuring 4.14 meters in length, 1.73 meters in width, and with a wheelbase of 2.55 meters. At the front, it stands out with a grille featuring different textures, chrome details, and sharp headlights reminiscent of the Corolla. At the rear, the exclusive LED taillights of the XLS version add a modern touch, although the 15-inch wheels are small for the car’s size.

Interior: Space and Comfort

Inside, the 2019 Toyota Yaris features a finish that mixes hard plastics and leather details, maintaining Toyota’s standard of simplicity and quality. Despite this, the interior space has limitations: the rear seat offers reasonable comfort, but the sunroof takes up space that could be used to improve headroom. The 310-liter trunk is functional but falls short compared to the Honda Fit, which offers 363 liters.

In terms of technology, the digital display of the XLS version is modern and exclusive, but the multimedia center falls short by not offering support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, something common among competitors.

Engine and Performance of This Toyota

The 1.5 engine with 110 horsepower, inherited from the Etios, gains new life with the CVT transmission. The setup is agile and efficient, providing acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.9 seconds. In terms of fuel consumption, the model reaches 8.5 km/l in the city and 12.2 km/l on the highway with ethanol, figures that are quite competitive.

The suspension, soft and adjusted for Brazilian streets, is a positive point, ensuring comfort on uneven terrain. The CVT transmission, similar to that of the Corolla, operates smoothly, offering a good experience both in the city and on the highway.

Costs and Maintenance

As is tradition with Toyota, the 2019 Toyota Yaris stands out for its cost-effectiveness in maintenance. Up to 60 thousand km, the revisions total only R$ 2,914, making it the most economical in its segment. For comparison, the Honda Fit requires R$ 4,250 in the same period.

Is It Worth It?

The 2019 Toyota Yaris is a balanced option for those looking for a compact hatchback with reliability, efficiency, and a touch of sophistication. Despite its shortcomings in areas such as connectivity and interior space, it excels in maintenance costs and provides a comfortable driving experience. For those who value Toyota’s tradition and quality, it’s hard to go wrong with the Yaris. After all, when the Toyota badge is on the hood, confidence comes as part of the package.

The Toyota Yaris is indeed good, and it presents itself as an attractive option in the compact market. If price isn’t an issue, the hatch has everything to please and be a safe choice even for the coming years.
