It is impossible to ignore the emotions involved in a closure like this. A decades-long story, a local landmark that leaves behind not only a physical space but also hundreds of lives directly affected.

What seemed like a routine action of relocating an industrial plant to another city turned into a nightmare for approximately 500 workers.

As published by CPG, the traditional cookie factory in Lençóis Paulista, owned by M. Dias Branco group, announced on Monday (06) that its activities are officially closed.

But what motivates this drastic change and the mass layoffs? What will happen to the employees who are now unemployed? And how will the city, which took pride in this historic presence, recover from this loss?

With the farewell of the cookie factory in Lençóis Paulista, the impact is felt both by the workers and by the local administration.

In an official statement, the company explained that the decision was made as part of an optimization process, aiming for greater operational efficiency, cost reduction, and agility in production.

For many, however, this explanation does not erase the burden of the hundreds of layoffs that accompany the end of the plant, a painful piece of news for those who saw in it a lifelong job opportunity.

The Human Drama Behind the Closure

The mayor of Lençóis Paulista, André Paccola Sasso, did not hide his sadness at the situation.

In an emotional statement, he said: “We are very sad to start the year with such bitter news. The factory was part of our city’s history. Now, our priority is to guarantee all the support for the people who lost their jobs“.

About 500 highly qualified employees, according to Paccola, will have to rebuild their lives at a moment that should be filled with hope for the city.

The Transition to a New Scenario

The local city hall has committed to providing comprehensive support for the laid-off workers, including professional training and guidance on relocation programs.

According to the mayor, the city is experiencing a time of growth and attractiveness for new businesses, which could signal a quick recovery for the former factory employees.

The City Hall of Lençóis Paulista acted quickly, organizing a manual of guidelines for workers who lost their jobs.

The material contains crucial information on how former employees can proceed to ensure their financial and professional stability.

The Secretary of Economic Development, Aline Fogolin, highlighted: “We are preparing a comprehensive service so that everyone knows exactly what to do, even with on-call services if necessary. The goal is to ensure that everyone receives the necessary help to move forward.

In addition, the City Hall offers various support initiatives:

Unemployment Insurance: Workers with formal employment can apply for benefits directly at the Worker’s Assistance Center, starting seven days after dismissal.

Emprega Mais: A digital platform that allows citizens to register for job vacancies and track work opportunities in real-time.

Training Programs: Through Pro-Quali, the City Hall offers courses in various areas, providing professional qualification for those seeking to reintegrate into the job market.

Sebrae: The program offers support for those wishing to start a business or improve their business management, providing valuable tips on how to open a new company or improve an existing one.

Banco do Povo: Quick and accessible credit, aimed at both self-employed workers and small business owners needing financing to continue or invest in their own business.

The Economic Impact on the City

With the exit of the factory, Lençóis Paulista loses a significant part of its history, not only in the cultural aspect but also economically.

The manufacturing unit was one of the largest local employers, and its closure jeopardizes the stabilization of an economy that, although growing, relies on large corporations.

However, as the mayor stated, the city’s future seems even more promising with the arrival of new ventures that could generate new jobs and bring new opportunities for those who were laid off.

What Comes Next for Workers After the Factory Closure?

Despite the weight of this transformation, there is light at the end of the tunnel for the former factory employees.

Training and support from the municipal government seem to be the key for these workers to find new opportunities, either in the job market or in entrepreneurship.

Even with the sadness and initial difficulties, what is clear is that the authorities are doing everything possible to assist in the transition and allow these people to rebuild themselves.

The M. Dias Branco company, for its part, assured that it will offer a benefits package and severance pay according to labor laws, as well as a human resources program focused on the relocation of workers to other units or sectors of the economy.

How to Enroll in Support Programs?

To ensure access to the various support programs offered by the City Hall of Lençóis Paulista, former factory employees can seek information directly at the Worker Assistance Center in the city.

Guidance on how to apply for unemployment insurance, enroll in Emprega Mais, and access other benefits is available for all those laid off.

The closure of a historic factory is never an easy process, and the impact of such a decision resonates for many years.

The city of Lençóis Paulista, however, shows itself to be resilient and united around the idea that overcoming is possible.

The support from municipal authorities, the opportunities for qualification, and new industrial projects could be the answer to a more promising future, even in the face of such heavy challenges.

And what do you think about this turnaround in the city’s history? How do you believe that the workers will be able to rebuild their lives? Share your opinion in the comments!

Autogestão (Anteag). É bom para a cidade e bom para os trabalhadores.
