New Registration Round for Free Specialization Course in School Management at UFSCar Offers Limited Spots, Online Classes, Excellence Training, and Presential Poles in the State of São Paulo for Principals and Vice-Principals of the Public Network

The Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar) has reopened the registrations for the third round of the Specialization in School Management, offered completely free and in an online format.

Interested individuals can register until April 17, 2025.

The course, which is part of the Open University System of Brazil (UAB), is aimed exclusively at principals and vice-principals of state and municipal public education networks, and aims to strengthen the training of educational leaders in the country.

Classes take place through the Moodle platform and include two mandatory in-person meetings throughout the program, held at partner poles in the State of São Paulo.

The training lasts for 18 months and has a total workload of 390 hours.

The contents have been carefully planned to cover everything from educational legislation to pedagogical, administrative, and financial management practices, always considering the contemporary challenges of public basic education.

100% Online Course Focused on the Reality of Public Schools

The Specialization in School Management at UFSCar is considered one of the most relevant in the country in the field of continuing education for basic education managers.

Developed based on guidelines from the Ministry of Education (MEC) and with support from Capes, the initiative aims to directly contribute to improving the quality of education in public schools.

Although the course is online, it maintains academic rigor and formal requirements, such as the obligation to complete a Final Course Project (TCC) in the form of a scientific article, in addition to regularly evaluated activities in the Virtual Learning Environment (AVA).

Students need to achieve a minimum grade of 7.0 in each subject and comply with at least 75% attendance in activities.

The syllabus covers topics such as democratic management, educational leadership, public policies, school planning, and inclusion.

The methodology is geared toward the daily practice of education professionals, promoting reflections and solutions applicable to the school environment.

Distribution of Spots by Poles in the State of São Paulo

The third round of the specialization offers a total of 170 spots, which are distributed among five poles of the Open University of Brazil in the state of São Paulo.

See below the division:

  • Jaú (Center): 34 spots
  • São Paulo – A.E. Carvalho: 34 spots
  • São Paulo – Balneário São Francisco – Pedreira: 34 spots
  • São Paulo – Boa Esperança: 34 spots
  • Peruíbe (Center): 34 spots

Each pole is responsible for supporting students in mandatory in-person activities, in addition to providing adequate infrastructure for monitoring the course.

Selection Process Prioritizes Agility and Organization

The selection process takes place entirely online and considers document analysis and the order of submission of registration forms.

This means that the first candidates who submit the required documents correctly and meet the criteria will have priority in filling the spots.

Registrations must be made through the electronic form available on the official website of the General Secretariat of Distance Education (SEaD) at UFSCar.

Among the required documents are proof of affiliation with the public education network, a copy of the graduation diploma, updated resume, and personal documents.

Training to Transform Public Education

The course is an excellent opportunity for those seeking top-quality training at no cost, combining theory and practice to strengthen the role of managers in public schools.

With the specialization, professionals expand their knowledge about school organization and can implement significant improvements in their educational units.

Additionally, UFSCar has been continuously investing in educational technologies and participatory methodologies, promoting a formative experience that values student autonomy and the dialogue between theory and practice.

According to SEaD at UFSCar, the first two editions of the course received positive evaluations from participants, and the expectation is that this new round will maintain the high quality standard.

The university also highlights that the specialization aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, especially concerning SDG 4, which addresses quality education.

Updates and National Scenario

In April 2025, the appreciation of training for school managers became a recurring theme in public education policies.

The new National Education Plan (PNE), currently under discussion in Congress, proposes specific goals for training leaders in schools, making the offering of specializations like this one from UFSCar even more relevant.

According to the 2024 School Census, more than 40% of principals of Brazilian public schools still do not have specific training in school management, highlighting the importance of accessible, high-quality programs to fill this gap.

In this context, courses like UFSCar’s directly contribute to the qualification of professionals working on the front lines of education, promoting structural changes through management.

How to Register and Secure a Spot

To register, interested individuals must access the SEaD-UFSCar portal and fill out the electronic form with the necessary documents.

The recommendation is that candidates do not wait until the last minute, as spots will be filled in the order of submission and validation of documentation.

The third round of registrations is considered the last of this cycle, and new opportunities may not be offered anytime soon.

For those working in the public education network and seeking to develop more effective management practices, this free specialization can represent a transformation in their career and in the school where they work.
