The road built by China has facilitated the transportation of agricultural products, avoiding losses and increasing farmers' income. In addition, it has connected isolated communities to markets and essential services, improving the quality of life for everyone in the region.

China's construction in Surkh Rod, Afghanistan, has created a road connecting Jalalabad to Kabul, tripled farmers' incomes, reduced agricultural losses, improved access to hospitals and created local jobs, transforming the economy and the population's quality of life.

Living in a region where getting your produce to market was like running a marathon full of obstacles. For the residents of Surkh Rod, Afghanistan, this was the reality until a road built by China changed the scenario completely.

Road construction

The road runs through the Surkh Rod district of Nangarhar province, connecting Jalalabad to Kabul. This work, financed and built by China, has become more than just a paved road – it is a true bridge for the economic and social development of the region.

Over the past 20 years, China has played a crucial role in Afghanistan's reconstruction, contributing essential infrastructure such as the Jamhoriat Hospital and strategic roads like this one.

Transformations in the lives of residents

The Chinese-built road connects the cities of Jalalabad in Nangarhar province to Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan.

Before the road was built, farmers like Rohudin faced enormous challenges getting their crops to market. Fruits and vegetables often spoiled before they could be sold, resulting in significant losses.

Now that the road is paved, not only is transportation faster, but residents also have easier access to essential services, such as hospitals. “This road has saved not only our produce, but also our lives,” said Hamayon, a local farmer.

Economic impacts of construction

The construction of the road has brought a significant increase in farmers’ income. Previously, their annual income was barely 100.000 afghanis (about $1.412). After the opening, many farmers reported annual earnings of between 200.000 and 300.000 afghanis (up to $4.236).

O project generated local jobs, not only during construction, but also in the trade and transportation that flourished thanks to the road.

Sustainable benefits for the future

This project is not just an immediate investment; it paves the way for sustainable economic growth in the region. With easier access to markets, farmers can compete on an equal footing, strengthening the local economy.

This partnership also solidifies bilateral relations between China and Afghanistan, showing that investment in infrastructure can be a powerful tool of diplomacy.

The road built by China in Surkh Rod is more than just a piece of infrastructure – it is a living metaphor for how connections can transform lives. With lasting impacts, this construction by China symbolizes a brighter future for the Afghan people. After all, a well-paved road is the first step towards prosperity.
