Humanoid Robots Will Participate For The First Time In A Half-Marathon With Human Athletes In China, Creating A Historical And Technological Milestone. See Details Of The Futuristic Competition
In China, an unprecedented event that places humans and robots side by side in a half-marathon is about to happen. Organized by the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone, the race promises to bring new advances in robotics and raise debates about machine capabilities.
Humanoid Robots On The Track
The competition will be 21 km long and will feature both human runners and humanoid robots. However, the event does not seek to pit humans against machines in direct competition.
According to Li Quan, deputy director of the technology zone, the goal is to highlight advancements in the sector and foster public understanding of robotic capabilities.

Belgium will sink 23 giant concrete caissons, each weighing 22,000 tons, in the North Sea to build the world’s first artificial energy island 45 km off the coast, forming offshore electrical walls.

The Pacific seafloor is breaking apart near Canada, and the silently cracking plate may reveal deep secrets about tsunamis, earthquakes, and methane hidden in the ocean.

Oyster cement surprises scientists by sticking even underwater, becoming 10 times more adhesive, and promising a stronger, faster, and less environmentally burdensome concrete.

Human-derived zinc invades even the South Pacific, dominates the surface of one of the planet’s most remote oceans, and raises an alert about invisible pollution that travels thousands of kilometers.
“We hope this event not only highlights the achievements of the humanoid robotics industry but also initiates discussions and improves public understanding of the capabilities of robots“, explained Li Quan.
The participating robots must have a bipedal structure, meaning they need to walk or run on two legs. Wheel-based machines will not be accepted in the race.
Additionally, one of the biggest challenges will be battery endurance. If the charge runs out, the team may replace it but will incur a 10-minute penalty on their final time.
Expectation Of Innovation And Development
The event takes place at a time when Beijing is accelerating its technological innovation in areas such as artificial intelligence, human-machine interaction, and information perception from multiple sources.
Liu Weiliang, deputy director of the Beijing Municipal Economic and Information Technology Department, highlighted that the city is making advances in these areas and is betting on the race to showcase the potential of robotics.
“Beijing’s technological innovation is accelerating in areas such as large-scale artificial intelligence models, information perception from multiple sources, and natural interaction between humans and machines“, explained Liu Weiliang.
Awards For Humans And Machines
Although humans and robots will cover the same distance, the award categories will be distinct. The top three finishers in the race, regardless of whether they are humans or robots, will receive prizes.
Additionally, there are specific categories for robots:
- Completion Of The Course: for machines that complete the half-marathon.
- Best Endurance: for those who can cover a longer distance without needing a battery swap.
- Most Popular Humanoid Robot: an award that takes into account social media impact.
The competition between humans and robots is expected to attract public attention and generate discussions about the future of robotics. The event will take place on April 13 in Beijing and promises to be a milestone for Chinese technology.
The Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone announced an ambitious plan for the coming years. The expectation is to recruit up to 10,000 robots from different companies in the sector, with at least 1,000 humanoid robots. This move reinforces the country’s investment in artificial intelligence and automation, areas that are expected to gain more space in daily life.
