The Goal of the New Investment in Ceará Is to Produce 378,140 Tons of Green Hydrogen Per Year
Ceará, more specifically the city of Caucaia, is preparing for the innovative construction of a new green hydrogen plant at the Pecém Industrial and Port Complex. The project is being led by Casa dos Ventos Renewable Energies and has received an initial investment of US$ 900 million. According to Portal Solar, the plant will have an installed capacity of 2.4 GW of electrolysis and aims to produce 378,140 tons of green hydrogen per year. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2025, with operations slated for 2027.
Green Hydrogen Plant at PECÉM in Ceará
The goal of the investment in Ceará is to boost renewable energy generation and promote sustainable development in the region. In the first phase of the project, the plant will have the capacity to produce 100,000 tons per year of green ammonia. This will be possible thanks to a renewable generation of 140 MWm, coming from solar and wind energy sources. This production of green ammonia will contribute to the industrialization and development supply chain in Caucaia, Ceará, boosting the local economy and generating jobs and income. The investment will be an important milestone for promoting sustainable renewable energy in the city.
Sustainable Development and Jobs Generated by the Investment
The mayor of Caucaia (Ceará), Vitor Valim, emphasizes the importance of the green hydrogen plant’s installation for the sustainable development of the municipality. In addition to boosting renewable energy generation, the project represents the beginning of new investments and brings with it a large industrialization supply chain. The plant will not only promote the transition to cleaner energy sources but also contribute to the economic growth of the region, generating jobs and increasing the income of the local population.

While hydroelectric plants lose capacity due to evaporation caused by heat in the reservoirs, the Philippines are installing floating solar panels on the plants’ own lakes, generating energy, reducing evaporation by up to 70%, and cooling the panels to increase electrical efficiency at the same time.
In summary, the installation of the green hydrogen plant at the Pecém Industrial and Port Complex in Ceará represents an important step for sustainable development and renewable energy generation in the region. With an investment of US$ 900 million in its first phase, the plant will have an installed capacity of 2.4 GW of electrolysis, aiming to produce 378,140 tons of green hydrogen per year.
In addition to boosting the industrialization and development supply chain in Ceará, the plant will bring new investments, jobs and income to the region. This project represents a significant advancement in the transition to cleaner and more sustainable energy sources.
