In 2020, the Plant Generated 1,266 Jobs in Construction and Projects. In 2021, 2,500 Opportunities May Be Created with the Works
The Itaipu hydropower plant, located on the Paraná River, spans part of the state of Paraná and part of Paraguay, generating various job opportunities in its 30 structuring works. In 2020, 1,266 people were hired to work on project development and civil construction. For 2021, it is expected that 2,500 job opportunities will be generated with the works.

Roger André Luttjohann, resident engineer of the East Perimeter Contract by the JL Consortium – Planaterra – Iguatemi, says that even before the construction of the perimeter, scheduled to start in March, at least 40 people participated in the preparation work, including those involved in the construction, in the construction site, and in the mobilization of the construction team.
During the peak construction period, the consortium is expected to generate between 400 and 500 direct jobs. Masons, carpenters, electricians, and machine operators are awaiting the selection process to secure one of these positions.

Job Opportunities:
The International Bridge over the Paraná River directly employed 373 employees;
The runway of the Foz do Iguaçu International Airport was expanded and hired an additional 400;
In the first phase, the duplication of the Cataratas Highway (BR-469) will create 20 direct jobs;
The BR-277 canal project will add another 40 opportunities;
The airport, in the duplication work of the access to the yard, opened 100 positions;
For the construction of the municipal market, an additional 20 hires were made.
Itaipu, indirectly, also helped maintain employment in several humanitarian aid institutions and opened around 800 positions for health personnel to assist in the fight against covid-19.
Works of the Itaipu Plant:
The East Perimeter will require an investment of 140 million reais, which will help divert heavy traffic in urban centers and tourist areas. The work is expected to be delivered in mid-2022. The new 15-kilometer corridor will connect the integration bridge between the city of Iguaçu and Presidente Franco and the BR-277 highway.
Considering the implementation of all projects in the coming years, the Itaipu Plant allocated 2.4 billion reais, including a new contract for the modernization of the Brazilian electricity sector.
General Joaquim Silva e Luna, the Brazilian director-general of Itaipu, says that “Our greatest concern today is to deliver on our promises, ensuring jobs for our people.”
